That's a great video. I'm sure that it was a lot of work to make it. Thank you very much!

I wonder about this duck sounds they make. Is it normal? or are ospreys able to copy sounds they hear like for example parrots?

Nice idea, to see all visitors on one pic.

Good morning to all eagleholics with empty-nest-syndrom... :whistling:

beerose that's a very nice video

toward the end, Madis delivers a fish and jumps over Nori as he leaves -- I saw that live and thought it so beautiful -- it was nice to see that in the collection

Hi all,

Also I had to migrate to this Place for Empty Nesters. Thank you very much Jo UK for creating this.

Starling was wondering earlier today about the small yeallowish-greenish bird visiting the Kalakotkas nest. Might it be a greenfinch (Carduelis chloris)? :puzzled:

There is currently heavy shooting going on at the nest site, apparently a military training? And a sad rain dropping on the microphone, without no osprey sounds

Ohhh NancyM, the migration video is making me cry. All birds I have watched on the net were not the type to migrate. But of course the babies fledged and left. For some clutches I did cry my eyes out and then not last year but now I am crying again.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I think that many of us share that feeling of astonishment that we became so involved, emotionally, with the lives of our birds.
Still, after 6 years, I am in the same condition - we are so much like our birds and they are like us in many ways. Their intelligent actions, their forethought for things to come - at first, I was surprised by the commonality of their lives and ours. That is, in common with us,. Now it is not surprising but still such a delight.

How many of us remember a time before webcams, when birds were just those interesting dots in the sky, that we knew nothing about?
Maybe we joined in about complaints of mess from pigeons and gulls?
No more, dear birds. We understand you now :loveshower: :headroll:

What the heck, there are no Osprey to post photos of so here is the Eurasian Jay and also a Blue Tit, I believe. Both were on the nest a few hours ago.

Good morning everyone....thank you for this new place......great to know we can still spend time together while waiting for Madis and Piret to return after their "holiday"....and thank you for the wonderful pictures and videos....I checked the nest too this morn....miss the sounds of the morning calls to Madis for the first fish of the day....I missed the ravens visit to the nest but did see a group of ravens yesterday on the forest cam.....they were having a grand time eating something...checked the Hellgate osprey too....seems Crown has an injured wing.....doesn't seem concerning to the Doctor so they are watching to make sure she is ok.....must get ready for work....have a great day everyone....

@ Beerose: what a wonderful video! I love it! :loveshower:
It's so touching to see this wonder of life again!
To see the fluffy little ones, remembering the sorrow about Nori ("Little"), hear again the hungry teenies yelling and watch the adolescent eagles learning to fly makes me thoroughly happy and proud of being part of this community.

 Hi, I took a look at the Hellgate ospreys this morning. There was one osprey at the nest, but it was very dark (night?). Then I looked the Facebook page and I read about the injury. How sad... There were so many comments on the FB page that I didn´t find out how bad the injury really is. But the nest got empty meanwhile, so I guess Crown can still fly. :2thumbsup: Hopefully Crown will fully recover!

Oh yes, Jo. For some reason, it seems that watching up close on webcams causes people to have a very strong attachment with the birds they are watching and if they watch from hatch to fledge, then it feels like we have lost our family members. It is very emotional.

I must confess I have been watching birds since the late 70s or early 80s and got my first bird identification books, then. I was living in Texas at the time, although my mother had taught me bird calls when I was a little girl. I think it was mockingbirds, Great Blue Herrons, Great White Egrets and Cattle Egrets which I first was inquisitive about as I had not seen them before I moved to Texas and I wanted to know what those were in my yard and in the drainage ditch behind the house. LOL!!!! Those egrets and herons do sure love to catch their fish but the Cattle Egrets actually ride the backs of the cattle down there in Texas to eat the insects that the cattle kick up as they are walking around the pastures.

Anyway, I was surprised to read that your autum means longer nights. It is the opposite, here in the states and while in the summer daylight is until around 9pm, in autumn, it quickly changes day by day until around the end of October, it is dark around 5pm. It is a beautiful time of year with wonderful smells in the air but I much prefer the daylight all day and part of the night. 8-)

Chimega, day/night times vary with latitude.
In southern UK I am at 50 degrees North. Estonia is close to 60 degrees north. You must be quite a lot more south than we are?
