Juta had the brilliant idea to start this topic, so we can give everyone little snippets of information from time to time.

For instance, today, we feel we need to be ready for the opening of the Black Storks forum. which has to be imminent, we hope!

There are a couple of small changes in post settings. Now, there will be only three nested quotes. For example if you post a quote which contains other quotes, now there is a limit of 3 quotes per post - it used to be 5 quotes.

Links to other sites, for example, photobucket or Imageshack, are now reduced to 5 links. We used to be able to post 8 links, which was a bit overwhelming when reading the page

Also, the Black Stork forum has some Rules - not something we have used before, but there is nothing wrong with an occasional reminder. It's mainly about trying to stay on topic, and some guidelines on posts. Nothing stringent!

Just for information. EENnet announces that there may be disruption or slowdown of service tomorrow night because of construction works on Tallinn-Tartu connection

Let's hope the black stork webcam will be with us soon. The new forum is ready and will be moved to its proper place this evening, but it will be kept locked until we know the webcam is live. I don't know who will get the news first - we must all keep watch.

In forum rules, I should have added that posts that are far off-topic will be removed, or moved to Picnic Grounds. but maybe not until the following day, so don't be surprised if you see that a post of yours has been moved!

We have been discussing the frequency of posts saying little more than "Good morning" and "Goodnight". If several people do that each day, it will use up a lot of pages by fly-away time in August.
It is sociable and well-mannered to return a greeting and it's difficult to say "Don't do that", but in the interests of the forum's appearance, we shall remove those one-liners. So the message is, carry on being polite, but again, don't be hurt or surprised when that greetings post vanishes!

We are going to re-organise the Index page. Things will look different, but nothing is being removed. The order in which forums are listed is being changed.

I think the re-organising is finished now.
Woiuld you like to check that your favourites are all in the right place and you can find your way around again? Thanks.

Looduskalender is going to add a German language section to its pages.

http://www.looduskalender.ee/de

Kaido, our webmaster, is eager to find more content to add, and then it can be published. It is just in early stages now.
If any of our German-speaking members have something to add to it, please make yourselves known.

We know that Leonia is preparing a translation of a black stork diary, from English to German. and more is welcome.

I don't have too much spare time, but maybe I'll find enough of it to brush the dust from my German, and translate an article or two directly from Estonian. But then I'll need to cooperate with some native German-speaker who must check it over (grammatic etc.) - it is almost 30 years when I did use my German actively, and even occassions to read something in German are rare lately.

That is good news, Arvi. There seem to be enough German speakers here who will be able to blow the duist away!

Sorry, Arvi, I only saw your entry today.... what a good idea to have also articles translated 'directly'. I hope you will find some time to do that at least once in a while. And if I can be of any help, please let me know!

Estonian Ornithological Society (EOS) Summer days are coming up and it could be an interesting event for any birdwatcher and eagle-fans
A chance to meet our leading eagle-expert Urmas. He does a couple of presentations about direction-finding of the bird with a radio transmitter and Tõnn's adventures in Europe. Also Ain Nurmla talk about eagle monitoring. Also excursions and field work competitions regarding the Bird Atlas and find out more about the Eagle club and it's activities.

Haanjamaa is by btw one of the most scenic places in Estonia.

Bociany has started a new part of the forum, to cover all aspects of animal behaviour. You will notice that some posts have been copied, NOT moved.

This starts with a discussion of Bird behaviour.
Recently we were able to witness the behaviour of Cainism occurring in our LSE nest and it was upsetting for some.
Here, that type of behaviour is discussed and added to when possible.

We are considering starting a forum, or topic for Environmental subjects and how that affects the wildlife we see here.
Likely topics so far - Nord Stream and the dangers to the Baltic countries from possible toxic residues.

There is a wind-farm on Hiiumaa which is controversail (as are all wind farms)

What other topics would members like to see here?

Last night and this morning, we lost our webcams and LK and LKF for a short time!
The reason -

Answer from Eenet - there were summer cableworks between Tallinn and Tartu.
Backup line was too small for webcam traffic and server pages were down some
time until routing tables changed.

It seems OK for now,

Kaido
