What was going on, at least: some bits of news and scraps from backstage about the web cameras from Kristel Vilbaste's weekly chronicle on LK main page
http://www.looduskalender.ee/node/9098, Jan 4, 2011
(Kristel Vilbaste is usually well informed! Sorry, Estonian only. Any volunteers for translations :innocent: ?)

"Pig TV in full swing
There are animals in the forest [despite the heavy snow cover] and fortunately we can follow their doings on our computer screens, sitting comfortably at home. The Looduskalender.ee people have got both Forest Cameras working by now. Pig TV Channel 1 had 11 boars in camera view at the same time; every now and then two deer also turn up. In daytime there is a big flock of jays, because the children in the Ilmatsalu kindergarten collected half a ton of acorns in the autumn and that is now being set out in daily rations to go into the beaks and snouts of the camera creatures. Forest TV channel 2 started on Thursday, according to Gennadi Skromnov, but sound wasn’t added until Friday. "It was so noisy at first that we had to disconnect the sound. Several different wild boar flocks met, and there was much quarreling. I think that about 36 different boars visit there. There is quite a number of young boars born this year, and four deer. In daytime there are snow buntings and a mallard came to check things out.” he said
Eagles, seals, bullfinches
The winter bird feeder camera in our winter capital, Otepää, shows a lively and varied bird life: greenfinches, siskins, tits, bullfinches, pigeons, sparrows and many others. On the eagle winter camera at least four eagles have been in camera view at the same time. Things are worse with the seal camera, blizzards pack the camera eye full of snow and to melt it away can take three days. But when a clear-eyed period occurs the coming and going of the ice can be seen, and from time to time seals too. And the Looduskalender.ee people send greetings to all their friends by way of Internet, with surely one of the most often viewed bullfinch photos - click here http://www.looduskalender.ee/node/9071.

I just read about a horrible fire in an Estonian orphanage and that ten handicaped children died in the desaster. I send my deepest compassion to Estonia.

Kotkaklubi is offering rewards to people who can give them information about the location of nests.

It is thought that foresters, hunters, and land owners are most likely to be sources of information.

Nature and life at Lake Peipsi, Estonia: photos, presentation, music - web camera direct stream Monday Feb 28 at 18.00 (6 pm) Estonian time http://www.looduseomnibuss.ee/otse
A collection of author Kristel Vilbaste’s weekly chronicles about the changes and happenings in a nature lover’s - and expert’s - year, particularly from her home village Vilusi on the shore of Lake Peipsi in eastern Estonia, has just been published.
Kristel Vilbaste presents life in Vilusi and the book today, Monday Feb 28, in the Looduse Omnibuss Nature Nights series.
Kristel Vilbaste's stories have appeared for several years in Looduskalender and Estonian newspapers. Her home, a 70-year-old farmhouse where she lived with her husband and 5-year-old daughter, was tragically destroyed by fire on February 12.

I just now read news about a mass shooting in a mall in The Netherlands. I am so sorry that such madness has now come there. My thoughts are with our members from there, Ergee, Fleur, Bosuil, Jopie, & Rionn, & any others of whom I do not know.

Thanks, Kitty. I went to read about it.

It happened about 25 miles (40km) south-west of Amsterdam.
What is the sudden madness that makes people do this?

Thank you Kitty. It was a shock as I heard about it. At this moment 7 people died, among them the shooter himself. We cannot understand what happened and why he did this horrible thing.
