The second egg hatched on the Trio Nest. They have named younger eaglet Sirius in Hancock Wildlife forum. One of the dads with Orion and Sirius:

Lubaska, that with Hanover Nest is really sad. Each season has her dramas, wild life is harsh for sure.

I saw a feeding some minutes before. The little one got some bites, the older one too. The older one bonked the younger one. The usual behaviour at this stage.

At first heavy storm, then much rain. I guess Dad is feeding the kids, he was a long time there.

These chicks are lucky that they ve hatched so early so they are so big during this horrible "spring" weather. Luckily nothing will happen to them. :)

I hope so, there were many worries before with a fishline and much cold weather and snow. But this parents are very amazing first timer, one of my favorite nests this year.

Big Bear

A very horrible news at Big Bear. Most likely a chick is died overnight. I don't know, how it happens. Maybe the harsh and harmful weather conditions. Someone wrote on IWS, that the chick has no more eaten since yesterday afternoon. It's so sad, I've never seen such gently siblings at a Bald eagle nest. I cannot check this at this time.

I scrolled back. A pic from the night, someone posted that Mom accidentally suffocated the chick, because she want the big chicks cover completely against the wetness...only an assumption. However for me is it heartbreaking.

I will post some comments from IWS:
One of the babies was not acting normal yesterday. I do not think it was smothered. I am not sure what was wrong with it but I do know that it didn't seem well to me yesterday afternoon.
You are right, I was checking the temp it was 43 but the real feel was 33, quite cold when they were already sopping wet. Dr.Sharpe mentioned that the baby might be shivering. Earlier he had said that they did not get their waterproof down yet.
Yes, the smothering scenario seems highly unlikely - almost impossible. Succumbing to the weather is entirely possible.
It sat with it's head down for quite a while without moving while mom was feeding the other baby, then it came over and took a couple of bites but it did not seem ok to me at the time. I had even asked here on chat at the time because I was afraid it had passed then.

I can only cross my fingers, that the other chick can survive there and will fledge, however I'm really shocked.

From the FB side by BB:
From the Friends of the BB Valley Eagles FB page posted a few minutes ago

''Some very sad news this morning. It looks like the 4" of rain we had here in Fawnskin was just bad timing. RIP BBB, we loved getting to know you. According the weather forecast, it will be drying out so we hope that Stormy will make it.''

 Birdfriend
I have the nest cam and didn’t even notice that one of the chicks had passed.
Now I see that there isn’t any movement from the chick on the left side screen.
I know that I read the warning from people who know this nest, that they have lost chicks here in Big Bear, from the weather. I was frightened of the snow and not really worried about the rain, because it wasn’t too cold.
This is so so sad.
Rest In Peace Sweet Baby.
