Re: American Bald Eagles.

Post by Bawet »

Good morning,

I'm sitting here and

Yesterday morning I saw two small feedings. DN7 got the larger amount.
The little one had to fight hard to get 3-4 bites.
Image

What I have observed over and over again, DN7 was constantly on the run to get out of the nesting bowl.
The mother then brought him back with her beak.
Image

The day before yesterday there was enough fish in the nest, but yesterday she only had the rest she fed in the morning.

Too little food, the vermin and the damp nest, these were not good conditions.
It certainly wouldn't have got better with the food.
A tribute to DN7 & DN8

So much tragedy in this nest. What does this couple have to endure? I saw Dad shouting out loud when he realized that his first chick had died and how he later protected his two dead chicks from the cloudburst. That broke my heart. Tears are still running today

Thanks, Bawet, for your honorable memory video to DN7 and DN8.
And thanks also to you, Sylvika, for reporting this sad news.

Absolutely horrible tragedy, what a disaster. Nature can be cruel and harsh, for sure. Thank you, Bawet, for sharing this tribute video.

Sauces Santa Cruz

At this time HP pushed Corsair out of the nest during food delivery (tug of war).
There were still all three.
Image

13:11 Shortly before a parent came with food, HP lunged at Corsair and pushed him off the back of the nest.

Pic from now, both look down to the sibling. I hope Corsair is fine, when he/she is the oldest, so he is nearly eleven week now.

Sauces

Thanks very much, Birdfriend

Corsair back to nest :loveshower:

S/He made all the way up to the nest. First s/he flew to a low branch left side of nest and then a beautiful flight up to the nest, to her/his siblings and Mom. I'm relieved that s/he was not injured.

current pictures:
Here I am again
Image

then, terrible battles over food.
The culprit, of course, has claimed the most already for herself and eaten
Image

now, as s/he knows that s/he can fly, Corsair is sitting on the outside of the nest

BTW: Do we already know, who is male and who are the two females? :puzzled:

I looked through yesterday morning for four hours, all they had in the nest were gnawed bones. Later, when I looked, everyone had a bone part like that and tugged at it. The boys are really desperate.

Here is the video when Corsar was pushed out of the nest.

:hi: Bawet,
thanks, I saw that (and I admit, I did not notice, that the genders are also fixed :slap: ).
They are as I suspected. I saw my guess after the ringing confirmed (the girls have the red ring on the left foot, the boy on the right). However, Lady Hawk(from YT-vids) said that Dr. Sharpe proceeds indiscriminately when ringing.

But Lubaska wrote also this:

I very much hope that poor #2 - 19A - will get her name now in June, too.

Yes, Bawet, the food distribution here is also very tense, as we have to see for a long time.

HP, I saw yesterday, ate the bird almost alone, for 19A and returning Corsair remained only bones and feathers, 19A ate mostly feathers. When MOM wanted to help, HP attacked her very aggressively, causing even MOM to back away fearfully.

:hi: balistar,

I have looked at the nest from the beginning again and again. At the very beginning, there was often a uterus in the nest, but then the brawls started. The big one against the middle one and the smallest one. The two bigger ones against the smallest. I didn't like visiting the nest anymore.
Eventually everything turned and the little girl became a Furie.
I am really amazed that all three chicks have grown up and surely all three will fly out.
Too bad if the middle one has no names.
Anyway, I'll remember him even without a name,

:hi: Bawet, I can imagine.
I started watching the nest only when Lubaska reported it. That was when the youngest and the oldest began to torture the middle. Meanwhile, it is the youngest, the very spoiled one, who governs, including the parents, (yes, like a fury). One may say she will become a strong eagle, but watching this behavior is not really enjoying.

I still hope 19A gets her name, otherwise I keep her in my mind with a name I gave her :innocent:

Sauces Santa Cruz

The trio is waiting and watching for fresh food. :D
Image

Whatever these three guys there do or not, for me it is much better as the previous tragic season.

Edit: Just now food was brought and the winner is: Hm, I think this prey was going through all three, everybody got some bites, but to less for all.
