Essec09: From Wskrsnwings: 8:00am Harriet has vocalized three times since my arrival. FV is quiet and moved to a live pine by the snag. Very sunny and hard to see him there. 8:05am Harriet flies across the pond through the stand of trees past FV. 8:20am I am back at the nest. I checked the little pond and power poles and did not see Ozzie or Harriet.

Decorah Eagles
June 20th
All three Decorah eaglets fledged few days ago. I saw today two of them on camera in the vicinity of previous nest. They look great and can fly deftly.

A Different Perch & Flight Path Behavior For Harriet 06-21-15

wskrsnwings: Harriet was perched overnight in the pasture in a seldom used pine, the one closest to the road. FV was perched halfway up the high right branch of the nest tree. Harriet was silent and FV was vocal before they flew away to the southwest. It is interesting to see Harriet choose to change her normal routine and only she knows why. Be safe Ozzie. We are here when you are ready to come back home.

I am really late to this page, usually following the magnificent black storks of Latvia. Earlier this year I observed the Bald Eagle nest at Berry College, North of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Berry has extensive woodlands, streams and other wildlife friendly acreage. Their Bald Eagle nest is in a 100 ft pine tree. "Ma and Pa Berry" successfully raised and fledged two eaglets this year. They are not banded or interfered with by humans, other than observed by cameras (one infra red) and photographed by dedicated birdwatchers.
The nest is now empty but should be occupied again by late fall. Bald Eagles mate for life and Mr. and Mrs. Berry have raised 3 perfect families there, that I am aware of.

A note on banding:
America's national symbol is the Bald Eagle. Unfortunately, last month, the oldest known banded eagle was found at roadside in New York- struck by a car while hunting.
38 year old male, banded as a baby, he has had a long life. Sadly, this received very little media attention.

They visit it every morning.

7:30 AM A squirrel visited the nest and found the previous eaglets toy - a pinecone. I thought no one squirrel survived in the vicinity.

Today a black vulture visited the nest. It is the next frequent visitor.

Today really big "bird" visited the nest

I think AEF inspected equipment for the next live broadcast season. The man checked cams, microphone and transmission level.

He also collected bones, skulls and jaws.

What bird is that? Maybe a large neongreen-bellied nestchecker? He is fearless and tech savvy too. Sort of handsome kind of bird.

"A large neongreen-bellied nestchecker" visited the nest yesterday again. He ate someting, but it wasn't a coot, squirrel or fish.



It's the exellent place to rest.


BTW All three cams are down today.

WOW! Someone should study that neongreen bellied nestchecker. He seems to be a fierce bird and quite sure of his territory.
The cameras may be out to either protect him or the viewing public.

Last year Romeo was back to the nest on August 28th.

One more frequent visitor - a Black Vulture.

I wonder who arrives first, male or female?
There are subtle differences in their looks. The female is larger and has fluffier head feathers, while the male is somewhat smaller, more streamlined and has a sleek head.
Unless they sit in close proximity to each other, it is hard to distinguish between them. At least for me
