Yes, balistar, she is an hero, very brave. Her leg looks more bad as in previous years. She can this leg not more good use, but she hunts and do all for her family.

I almost dare not ask, there is nothing they can do for her leg?
Not now, when she has babies, but maybe later?
I guess, weather they do not interfere or it is just too difficult to catch her for bringing to a rescue station / rehab-center?

I don't know, maybe when they would do it, then they helped already earlier?

Big Bear

Again a feeding, at this time from Dad. Earlier I saw, the younger eaglet made a poop shot. That is good. :2thumbsup:
Some times before there was also a feeding by Mr.BB. The wind is constant blowing strong.

chat (http://www.iws.org/livecams.html)
PearlBailey Mod • 6 hours ago On the string at BB -- please remember this nest tree is on US Forest Service land. They are the lead agency to make any and all decisions. Their biologist is monitoring the nest. If the situation is too worrisome, feel free to watch a different nest. At this point, all we can do is hope the string doesn't become an issue.

Institute for Wildlife Studies Mod PearlBailey • 6 hours ago Also, that if there was someone able to climb the tree, that the adults would be off the nest for 1-2 hours and the chicks would be exposed to the elements and predators for that period. (Dr. Sharp)

PearlBailey Mod PearlBailey • 6 hours ago
Also, remember this nest is up about 120 feet in a Jeffrey Pine. Even if an access to the nest was to be done, there is a level of expertise needed to climb the tree. That's part of why this nest is so safe - very high, very healthy tree.

:hi: Solo,
thank you very much for these updates from BB's nest. I've just read the complete IWS-response which Lady Hawk attached in her video.

Here they have the choice babies could get strangled or freeze / starve. Who wants to decide that? Let's pray that the parents are able to getting this fishing line out of the nest by themselves.

Solo! Thank you for all pics, they are not too much. I opened the cam now and went back and must see this disaster. I don't understand the operators there. It is always the easiest way nothing to do. I hate this. They installed this cam so they must help. Would they wait until the eaglets are strangled.

I hoped yesterday, that this very strong wind can blowing this fishline away... :faint:

Big Bear

Thanks Solo & Birdfriend,
I was watching today too and I almost got one heart attack after the other.
It is really hard to watch and one feels so helpless.

Mom worked so hard, tearing that dumb fishing line out of the nestbowl,
once the line hung like a noose around the little one's neck, I thought, if she pulls now .....

Instinctively she knew that line is not a good thing and must be taken out of the bowl.
Then she had the noose around her right foot, but managed to get him free again.

After hard work with an overwhelming will, she managed to wrap the fishing line in a ball around a twig.
I thougt, now throw it out of that nest.
But no, she decided to leave it on the edge of the nest and kept on incubating.

Mr. BB came, he took the fresh fish, she vocals strong with him, got up and flew away.
He fed both babies with fresh fish, they got some huge bites and ate well.
Then he settled in to incubate and took with his foot the whole ball of fishing line back into the nestbowl. :slap:

I wanted to reach in and remove this fishing line.
I think, I'm afraid opening this cam tomorrow morning again.

EDIT 02-21-18, 14:26 (LK-time): Correction !!!
I'm sorry, I confused Mom and Dad.
Unfortunately I can not distinguish these two from each other well.

Following part from chat, what our Solo posted, shows it was Dad, working so hard tearing on the fishline, not Mom. I'm sorry.

Good morning to all

balistar, Birdfriend - thank you

BIG BEAR

from chat: Male was working really hard trying to get it out of the nest this afternoon. They untangled it from the one baby that it was wrapped around. So that was good. I believe it’s under the new grass dad brought but still in the nest.
