What fine, fat babies these are! Even the littlest one is fat & well-cared for. Mom feeds them a big fish. (Something has made the cam go fuzzy-focus.)

Eaglet picks at a scrap of food. The babies are getting very big. Pin feathers are beginning to sprout all over them.

There is terribly sad news from the Norfolk Botanical Garden in Virginia regarding the female parent of three recently banded eaglets (Apr. 21). I've included link to the video of the banding from last week. It is quite amazing to watch the loving care with which they were handled (cradled on a lap while their bands were placed) and so dear to see them sitting on the bright green grass together, still as little statues. The physics applied by the tree-climber/eaglet-fetcher is also astonishing to behold.
Such a horrible loss, not only for the eaglets, who have essentially lost both parents, but also for the male eagle who has lost his mate of so many years...and his little ones. I am so shocked and sad. I also don't know if this nest has been noted on the forum. Tried to check but may have missed.

Thank you, Rosebud. Macdoum has also been reporting on this situation in the "general interest" section of this sub-forum. It sounds like there is a good plan to help the eaglets make it to fledging & placement into the wild. It is so sad to hear about this story, though.

Trying to balance the mood - here is an optimistuc event about to happen.
Ma and Pa Hornby are expecting an egg to hatch, sometime very soon. They heard the chick inside the egg last night and the egg shell is pipped.

Thank you Kitty for all the Decorah news.
I wonder where has venegor gone
I hope that you and your family are getting over your loss ? I expect your Dad would rather be in the Heavens than there in the nursing home ? He was too so far away from you.

Thank you, Macdoum, my family is doing well. I am the one who is so far away, but everyone is going to travel back to the state of Iowa (next door to Missouri where I live) during the summer to bury my father's ashes in a family cemetery. My parents are from that state originally, & many relatives on both sides are still there. It will make it easy for me to be there, only a 6 hour drive rather than a 2 - 3 day drive to get to where my mother & sister live in Montana.macdoum wrote:Thank you Kitty for all the Decorah news.

I am worried about Venegor. I see she has not posted anywhere since before Easter. I hope nothing is wrong, that perhaps she is on holiday somewhere & not able to keep up with the cams.

Venegor, good to see you back again!
Very warm today-- 85 F currently (29.4 C), down from 88 F (31.1 C) earlier. Everyone is panting & holding wings wide to cool down. Someone has blurred the cam lens with a poop shot.
Local USA time 18:35
