Berry College Eagles

I have read, that the female eagle has a injured foot since her return in 2013. It is new, that the male eagle has also a injury on his leg/foot or talon. They don't know how it happened. The female doing good, can all make without problems. The injury from the male is very fresh, I've noticed it today for first time.

Dad on the nest, I hope really, that they are still able, to raise chicks again...they have done nest work so much.

3 January 2018
I just found out that the Bald Eagles in Big Bear, California, laid an Egg today!
I saw a video on YouTube of the Egg being laid! :headroll:
I find this odd because the nest is on a mountain, next to Big Bear lake where normally it is covered in snow in the winter and spring. People go there to snow ski in the Fresh alpine air.
Institute for Wildlife Studies , (IWS) runs the nestcam, same as the Channel Island nestcams.

Big Bear Eagles .
Their names are Beauty and Bear.

We have our very first egg of the 2018 season! The first sighting of the egg was at 4:45pm today (the same day that she laid the first egg last year!)

1st Egg; Mr BB Watches Mrs BB Lay; Intense Labor~1-3-18
Mr. BB flew into the nest about 20ish minutes before she delivered. The interaction between them really showed the strong bond between them. While Mrs BB was in Labor she was making peeping vocals unlike I have ever witnessed before. Mr BB hopped onto the nest from a side branch seemingly concerned and curious and literally watched her lay the egg. It looks to me like she laid the egg about 4:44-45pm. Shortly after Mr. BB departed, she revealed her blessed egg.

Thank you for the links and info about the Big Bear nest!
I watched that egg laying video very late last night. I’ve never heard the sounds that Beauty, female, made before the egg came.
It was very touching. :D
This will be my 1st year watching this nest.

Hm, I think something is wrong at the "Big Bear Nest."
I have read, that Mom left the nest a half hour ago. :puzzled: And Dad was not seen since the egg was laid.
A pic from the unprotected egg.
Image What is happened there?

Four minutes later Mom left the egg...
Image

She is back at 8:29, 8:33 she covers her egg again after more as 45 min.

from chat:...
It's better here that happens than WI. Just saying. Eagles4kids watched that type of behavior way too much but caused by someone baiting eagles to the area. They were in defense mode all the time.
