Re: American Bald Eagles.
Another hot, windy day in Vian, Oklahoma, USA. The eaglets were not hungry, so the parent ate what was left of a fish.
Local, USA time = 19:30 pm.

Frogs are in full night song & in the background behind the frogs, an owl (probably a great horned owl) is hooting.

Why that in a nest only one baby bird and one egg, the second baby bird is not present?

Venegor, I checked the American forum, and unfortunately, one of the eaglets died..It seems to be a little disagreement of how it died. Some think the mother accidently stepped on him, and some think she roughed it up ( I don't know If roughed is the right word) I think it's the smallest who is gonevenegor wrote:Why that in a nest only one baby bird and one egg, the second baby bird is not present?
Thank you for pictures and videos Venegor and Kitty
- Which birds do we see in Venegors video?

Looks like it's still hot for the eagles in Decorah nest. It's exciting days ahead, when will the first egg hatch?

Ooops, sorry, I posted the video of the nest with owls hooting in the wrong place. It is a Canada goose in the nest. Here is where it should go, & information on it. viewtopic.php?p=132563#p132563Lussi05 wrote: Venegor, I checked the American forum, and unfortunately, one of the eaglets died..It seems to be a little disagreement of how it died. I will be posting more videos there today after I prepare them, as I got some good recordings of the coyotes calling last night, plus more of the great horned owl & as a bonus, a screech owl. If you have never heard one, it will raise the hair at the back of your neck! It sounds like a woman screaming in the dark.
Yes, Lussi, the phrased "roughed up" means the chick was treated harshly & the phrase usually means there is intent behind the cruel treatment. I don't know if the mother intended to hurt the chick, more likely it was an accident.

LOL! The mother in the Vian nest tries to snuggle over her eaglets like she did when they were little chicks!
Mama is still trying to snuggle over her babies in the windy nest.

Kitty, your videos where the Vian mother tries to snuggles her eaglets are so cute. She looks almost small next to them now..
The third egg in the Sooner nest must be destroyed/infertile. Shouldn't it have hatched by now? And If it hatch, the difference will be large between the chicks..
Thank you for the nice pictures Venegor..
Vian nest, 12:43, local time - still very wet weather, they all look miserable..
Decorah mum (to be) is preening her feathers..

We are at the point of hatch watch now! It should be any day for the first chick.
"SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 19, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ustream Inc., the leader in live, interactive, streaming video, today announced hatch watch for its most popular channel, the Decorah Eagles. Three eggs were laid in late February and the first egg is expected to hatch this week around March 23 or 24, with each remaining egg hatching about a week apart."

Hatching should begin by March 23 or so (Friday). Mama seemed restless tonight & was panting-- it must be warm there.

1:30 local USA time, March 21.
It must be a very warm night. Mama is panting heavily to cool off. The air is still, so you can hear her panting.

She stands up and the panting stops!
