Re: American Bald Eagles.

There is a strong rainstorm over the eagles' nest area, with gusty winds. It is cool, only 41 F. But a bedraggled & wet mom shelters her eaglets well.

The forecast reads: Plan on periods of rain to continue through 6 PM. Some sleet could mix in at times. Look for rainfall amounts between 4 PM and 6 PM of up to one quarter of an inch (0.635 centimeter). In addition to the rain...east winds of 25 mph (11.18 m/s) to 35 mph (15.65 m/s) with gusts to 50 mph (22.35 m/s) will also continue through 6 PM. Wind Advisory in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

A cold, wet night for the bald eagles. Eaglets securely tucked underneath mom.

 Oh my Lord! What a horrible night & day for our bald eagle family. :slap: I was not able to watch today, so I don't know how they fared during the daylight except by your movies. Venegor, you documented their trials so well with all your videos. Thank you! This certainly shows how devoted the parents are to their little brood. Both huddled in the nest to share warmth with the babies & with each other, even if their backs were crusted with ice & snow..

 And thank you, Fireblade, for your video that showed an improvement in conditions. It was still a raw & cold day, but improved enough for the chicks to be uncovered & fed. The parent looked famished, also, & made sure to get some of the fish for itself.

I just looked, & it is a cold night again, but not raining or snowing. Mom is tightly wrapped around her chicks.

..and there is food waiting there.
Thank you Venegor and fireblade for sharing those videos. Poor eagles they had a hard time there and were so good in keeping the chicks warm and then fed. :D

 Good video, Venegor! Now here is one from me.

A warmer, better day for the eagles. Mom feeds the chicks, who are fat & growing. Red-winged blackbird sings in the background, "toodle-dee-dee". Oh, yeah-- a poop shot! :rotf:

I seem have guessed, why mum so is guarded and does not sleep. Baby birds on mine sleep for the first time opened, instead of under mum at night

The daddy has brought products of a food-big a trout, and has shown as it is necessary to arrive with extraction. But kids had not time to get hungry still and consequently accepted food with the big reluctance

it is really too bad that we do not have Linda and Sulev for comparison this year.

It seems the father eagle really wants to feed the chicks. I do not remember Sulev hitting Linda in the beak this way, but sometimes Sulev really wanted to feed the youngsters.
