Today the cam of Decorah Eagles will close. It was wonderful and very interesting to follow the cam while showing this and that and to see the eagles so very near. Thank you whoever it made it possible that I could watch all this.
This picture is not very good but it is the last I could take on 28th June at 11:30

Bye to all of the Eaglefamily and until next saison

Thank you, Bleggi, for the last picture of one of the eaglets. It was fun to watch them grow up this year, especially since we could not see Linda & Sulev's family life this time.

Bleggi, thank you for the last picture from the Decorah eagles this season, and also to Kitty, for your videos.
I am sorry to say that a new member, Sylvie Lefevre, informed us that one of the Decorah eaglets was found dead by electrocution some days ago, 10 days after he flegded. So sad...
It has been very nice to watch the Decorah eagles this season, I hope we can visit again next year:)

A little memory:

Yes, Lussi, it is so sad that the young eagle had hardly tasted life away from the nest & then so suddenly it died. I found some information about it & will post it here, below.

Also, here is a link to a news article about the tragedy & what happens to golden & bald eagles here in the USA when they are found dead. http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/ ... -services/

The Decorah Eagle cam is currently off air, and will be live again in November. The shutdown time will allow us to work on several other projects and also to provide a much deserved break for all of our volunteers. We will do a news post in advance on our Facebook page, and also on the Ustream page to let you know when the camera will be back on.

Information Regarding D12

The Decorah Eagle's nest suffered it's first known tragedy on July 1st, as D12, the first hatched eaglet from 2012 was accidentally electrocuted on the top of a power pole. There was some protection in place on the top of the pole, and the power company has been out to install updated protection on all the poles in the area. We are deeply saddened by this loss. By law, D12's remains were sent to The National Eagle Repository in Colorado, which is operated and managed under the Office of Law Enforcement of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. It serves as central location for the receipt, storage, and distribution of Bald and Golden eagles that have been found dead. Eagles and eagle parts are available only to Native Americans enrolled in federally recognized tribes for use in religious and cultural ceremonies.

Hi everyone! I had posted this video of the Decorah Eaglets in the Estonia Osprey forum as they were wondering how crowded the nest would be with three chicks. It was suggested that I post it here also - I was not even aware of this thread! I am sure some of you have seen this one already, but it's good again and again!

The Decorah eagles still come to the old nest tree sometimes. They have built a new nest across the highway in another tree, so we may not be able to see them prepare their nest, lay the eggs, & raise the young eagles next year. But it is good to see them here once in a while. You got a good picture, Venegor.

I watched the cam on the same day in the afternoon. Here is what I saw.

2 Dec, local nest time 13:40 (1:40 pm CST)--
