from chat: liznm Perhaps the second stork was the other female? I wonder that no one is at the nest.
Liz, usually the first stork arrived the male and male preparing the nest :puzzled:. If they have'nt ring and/or it is'nt mating all is possible  .

Solo I'm know, that the Male as first arrives. Yesterday Zile came first. She flew away in this Morning. Then a second Stork came in. Since he did not return, I think it was perhaps the second female. The first Stork wasn't a Male. I'm sure. So we have to wait for what happens.

Male or female - none of us knows (any human being can be sure without actually knowing) . Perhaps they were old inhabitants - or new - who did not like the new architecture without the parents' trunk supporting the nest construction

I am interested in whether this is a scientifically proved conclusion or just your personal feeling?

The male birds reach Estonia by the beginning of April, even before the snow and ice have melted and the female birds follow a week or two later. source: http://www.kotkas.ee/species/black-stork (also another description in another language - source writing this)

Hello together :hi:

If male or female, you can never be sure ! :puzzled: They found out that normally the male is coming first, that is true.
But: 'Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel' - the exception proves the rule !

It is the same with the White Storks. Normally it's always the male who comes earlier.
This year for example the female came earlier to my favorite nest ...

Solo, both Baska and I mean same as you: that none of us can know whether it is a male or female bird - only DNA-prove or (as you say), rings or mating occasion / egg laying can tell. You can "feel sure" without really knowing, as Liz does.
