Hello Liz and all,
thank you, Liz, for todays reports and pictures. :2thumbsup:

I think, there's no real progress in the hatching of the fifth storklet.

15:02 From this egg side is nothing to see.
Image

15:23 I don't know what to say about ... Yesterday I saw a crack that seemed to be more promising than this.

15:43:32 Feeding. All storklets in a row. Kaupo regurgitated a black something, which I couldn’t recognize.
Image

Hardly 10 seconds later the fourth storklet moved away from the food, in opposite direction. :puzzled: I don't think, it has eaten something.

Thank you for the video, Liz! :2thumbsup:
I'm very glad to see finally a nicely filled crop of the youngest chick!

Do you think, it still can manage it to hatch? Meanwhile I ask myself, if it is healthy and strong enough to hatch. But its voice at 18:55 was quite loud.
If it hatches it will be difficult for it to reach the food between the bigger siblings. I'm already glad, if the fourth storklet got enough food to survive. 8-)

Michi,
Yesterday I thought about the fifth egg.
It seems to me that the parents do not care anymore for it. It was in the sun for a quite long time. It is not turned anymore. I do not see any help for the fifth chick to hatch.Only then, if the nest bowl will be loosened. It looks like it doesn't matter for them, that it hatches? They have enough chicks. :puzzled:

But it's just a feeling that it could be like this. We have to wait.
I would be happy to see four chicks growing up. That's more than I've seen so far.

6:08 There is no progress visible. I think we will not see a fifth chick. There is no hole and also no crack! I'm happy about it.

A collage from this morning. I think that's a cute pile of storklets :loveshower:

7:13 Danger .. someone is on the nest tree
7:15 She covers the chicks .. the danger is over

It must have been a bird of prey. Her behavior is like this. In a conspecific, the behavior is different.
It was a threat to the chicks. Her vocalization was corresponding.
