Good morning Gints brought a pray to Grieta at 9:36. Grieta left and Gints settled down to incubate, and first Gints rolled the egg, bery carefully. The cam is down for the moment - from 9:43. Two cams down :( Also the Seili Ospray cam..

At 17:05 a woodpecker was in the nest and pecked the egg.renandeli wrote:What? How do you know? Tell us what has happened, please..

After that Griet returned and it was ok.. untill at 20:08 only one (!) woman saw that Grieta picked up egg with beak in the hole.
20:08 (This image we saw only after 21:00):
Then Grieta left the nest and return with a twig.
We all thought, that this one woman had mistaked, but appr at 21:00 Grieta began to eat this egg too...
An info from project people after that all (they watch video with better quality) - a woodpecker pecked a hole in the egg, and it would not be alive futher, even there was a chick (but, how we know, after 32 hours without grieta's heat, this was a little hope only).
Grieta is still incubating.. nothing..

How disappointing, for everyone involved with this webcam project, and for us who watch, too.
Better luck next year, Latvia.
Please show us the webcam again!

Thank you for the information.
It seems that raising baby eagles -- even just through hatching is a tough job.

LAT-eagle, I will say that this cam has been wonderfull to watch, and Grieta and Gints are beautiful eagles and a good couple. I wish better luck for Grieta an Gints next year, and that we can follow Latvian LPS eagle nest's life again - I for my part will send my participation and empathy to the project people and to all who feel sorrow...
There is hope still! A new summer will come.. i'm sorry, so .. anyway, I will save many pictures in my folders.

Don't loose all hope yet!!
The chick will not die if only the hard shell is broken.
There is this pretty tough membran inside. If that is intact the chick might well survive.
I have had that happen many times with my hens.
Let's still hope.... as long as there is something in the nest....

Thank you LAT_eagle for information....for very sad information.
You are right, there was possibility the egg was dead already, but all we hoped there is little chance...
Its nature, but still...too sad
I watched them this morning, when Gints brought a mouse.
After knowing the situation its really hard not to humanize.
Grieta must be hungry, but she didn't eat at first. Like mourning, doesn't have appetite
09.03
Gints left, Grieta preened. She put the prey to other place.
09.07
09.10
Having the breakfast.

This is miserable view

She left about at 10.55

Its probably my wishing thinking. It may be just a leaf of twig or eggshell. Didn't see she turning the egg either. But still, is it sure she ate it?LAT_eagle wrote: Then Grieta left the nest and return with a twig.
