Little comment. This Year Ugjis installed two cameras. One at Grieta and Gusts nest and one at another nest. Only one bird has returned to Grieta and Gusts nest till this time, so this is picture from another nest were both individuals are returned from winter quarters.

Here is some information from Ugis about current nest camera:

Dear friends and colleagues,

This year too, we managed to establish a web camera to watch an nest of a Lesser Spotted Eagle in Latvia in the internet. Use the following link to observe this aerie : http://www.pomarina.lv/

On April 8 at 15.36h a female bird was noticed in this breeding area for the first time. On April 13;17 and 18 it took some twigs into the aerie, still being alone.

The link http://www.dabasdati.lv/forums offers a forum to discuss these matters.

Please forward this information to your friends and colleagues.

Kind regards -

So my thought that this looks like a different nest from last summer was right. Cam has a good view of everything, though. If this is not the nest of Gints and Grieta, parents of Guste, then either they have names given them by the watchers in Latvia, or it is up to us to name them.

:loveshower: All the birds are lovely, but I think the LSEs are especially beautiful with their long legs & delicate heads & beaks. (But I suspect their preys do not think their beaks are delicate!)

Yes you are right. Grieta and Gints is last year adult eagle names. It appears that I was thinking about spring outside the window, when I wrote this. :headroll: But this female is from another nest and he hasn't any name yet.

May I suggest a name in Latvian, Estonian, Finnish or some other nearby language that means "beautiful," "lovely," or "pretty"? Something along those lines?

We're a little superstitious because not yet returned the male. When will be returned both eagles, then we give them names.

But words beautiful in latvian is skaists, lovely is mīļš, pretty is jauks.
Latvian words are hard to pronounce for foreigners

I understand not to get too eager. We have not had good luck with the WTEs or the buzzards after we all got so excited to see them, now none of tehm are anywhere to be seen!

As for Latvian words being hard for us foreigners to pronounce! They are even hard at first for foreigners' eyes to understand! :rotf:

Following the tradition to give the names beginning with "g", it may be Gabriela(Gabi). That's a beautiful name and easy to pronounce. And if it is a male, Gerhard would be OK.

Those sound good. (I had a dog named Gerhardt once. ) I kind of liked Skaists, too, but if there is a tradition . . .

Sorry Kitty but I do not know how write pronunciation :help:
But you can copy these Latvian words in Google Translator and listen pronunciation. By the way, in Latvian word endings are dependent of gender, women are ending - a, -e, man -s, -is.
For example - beautiful women is skaista sieviete, beautiful man is skaists vīrietis

Hope you can understand what I wrote :slap:
