hello Abigyl
sorry it took me this long to answer. if i understood DD correct they seem to think that the girl yesterday was younger than i thought, i.e. this year's eaglet, and that she was flying after Raimis and demanding food from him. who knows, that may be possible.
about the hawk today: i suppose it had to be a goshawk. all the other alternatives in my bird guide are far too exotic to be true.
mega2 has some pictures of it in DD:
https://dabasdati.lv/forums/viewtopic.p ... 9f#p162299
maybe vainamoinen or Hagnat could help to confirm the identity of the hawk?
i made a close-up clip of the visit. the arrival and the departure are in slow-motion.

Thanks Mega-Liz!!
06:11-06:12 - Definitely not a T-owl.
Sounds like a a lazy eagle, very slow or short low calls. Some were very low.
06:10:42 (Started low, but after a second became louder and a little more energetic than the other calls which sounded lazy).
06:11:04-35 many shorts
06:11:49-12:02

good morning!
6:10 - 6:11 a tawny owl called.
https://youtu.be/jNw96X2Y26w
6:12 more owl's calls. - it could have been a very sleepy eagle, too, but i think that an owl is more likely.
https://youtu.be/5O9osebf7MY
7:52 and near 7:54 there were sounds of cracking branches, but no voices. it could have been a boar, a deer of some sort or an elk. there's no way to say who. it could also have been a human. we make most noise in the forest.
8:25 a funny squeak and then a black woodpecker called. i suppose the squeak was the BW as well.
8:29 a short eagle's call.
now i'll go and have coffee.

Ame, are the Lat owls different than Klaara the Est?
I didn't hear any owl there.

in which recording you didn't hear the calls, Abigyl?
... oh, now i see that you didn't think that any of them were tawnies at all.
i think the local tawny owls are the same as Estonian tawnies. i think that these voices were communication calls, not singing = territory marking voices which are the classical owl's ho-ho-hoo's (i hope you understand my meaning).
i looked up tawny owl's voices in xeno-canto. here's one example of a short call:
http://www.xeno-canto.org/379564
there are lots of more samples, the ho-hoo's and female's long calls and shorter calls. tawnies are very vocal owls.

9:59:07 eagle's voices?

hi laranjeiraslaranjeiras wrote:i couldn't resist guessing - could it be a pallid harrier circus macrourus?
the pallid harrier was one of my exotic guesses, too. the picture popped out of the pages of my bird guide. however, it breeds north of the Black sea and Caspian sea, and winters in Turkey and Middle East says the map. it is not possible i think. the Northern harrier Circus cyaneus and the Montagu's harrier Circus pygargus would be much more likely, but i don't believe in them either.
i also thought of the honey buzzard Pernis apivorus but those have migrated south about 2 months ago.
the goshawk is far the most likely bird here now.

well look who are here: our love birds!
both came empty-handed this time, but they worked with the materials that were already on the nest.
11:20 Raimis jumped to the right branch to do his favourite business. :mrgreen
Milda's tail is dirty. the tips of the feathers are muddy.
11:26:05 Raimis flew away to the right.

11:27:31 an eagle flew by the nest on the right side.
the eagle was Raimis since at 11:27:50 he came back with a big bunch of hay. he jumped to the left outer branch.
11:29:45 Milda to the top branch.

Abigyl, i think it is best to think about the extra eagles as visitors. they make life much more interesting here.Abigyl wrote:I was so worried when they weren't back after the other "visit", now I'm

11:43:38 Milda to the left branch... and back. .... and Raimis brought a stick.
11:44 some violent-looking kisses from Milda to Raimis.
Raimis got worried and so he retrieved to the back rim.
11:45:28 Raimis flew away. i think he landed on a tree there, where the tip of the poop branch points.
