it's raining hard!
eagles don't mind little rain but this is too much for them. they'll be sitting in shelter in some thick spruce.

11:42-3 I think there was a hooded crow? or was it a raven? on the nest (colour seemed to be crow but i only caught a glimpse) - it made a reallly strange croak (like a computer on the blink ). Then I heard an owl then possibly an eagle call....

It was a raven. It made sounds with its bill/beak as only a raven can, just for a second

i have a video of the raven's visit. he re-organized the sticks on the nest but he also did something else.

it had some take-away food in its crop and it regurgitated some of it on the nest on the left side. then it went to the balcony and wiped its beak. then it returned down and ate the food in smaller pieces. then it went up again, only to return again, this time on the right side of the nest. there it regurgitated some more food. i think this was another piece because it looked dark while the first piece was light. then it wiped its beak again and then ate the second food also in smaller pieces. that was rather interesting behaviour.


the raven kicked some of the sticks on the right side when it jumped back to the balcony.

there's a young eagle on the nest tearing down what Durbe and Robert built two days ago. and my connection is so bad!


it has Latvian rings.
i think it can be K011.


edit: i took more pictures from the video. i think it is K011.
in the above picture the beginning K01 is rather clear. in the picture below the last number can be seen below the 0: it's another 1.

then my connection cut off completely and after i had rebooted my receiver and restarted the camera the eagle was gone. now there are no breaks in my connection. what a fine time for striking!

then a lot of General errors!
the sound was bad in both videos. my connection was so bad.
so i downloaded the Pontu video and made a new close-up clip. in this i think that the ring can be seen more clearly and the sound is right.

that's a good idea! i wonder if Durbe can be fooled...

i made a gif of the young visitor today. it must be ringed in 2013 because that's when they started using all-black year rings. surprisingly this eagle had already an almost all-yellow adult-like beak.
it also rubbed its bottom against the nest like Makonite and Pukitis used to do.

the eagle is scratching it's bottom. last year's eaglets did a lot of that: they rubbed their bottoms against the nest bottom. someone wrote this year that they probably had some birdflies or something like that itching their bottoms (around anus).

it wasn't birdflies but louse flies.

the camera has been off so long now that i think i'll write to Mr B... or maybe i should write to Mr U? the camera itself is working: Pontu pictures come in all the time. - message sent to Mr U.

17:50 no stream but it's dark out there any way. maybe that is the problem: not enough power from solar panels today?
