Re: Latvian WtE nest webcamera Juras-erglis 2018
hello Jasminnn and welcome!
don't worry about your English. most of us are 'foreigners' with different languages here.
knowing who is who is fairly easy if they show us their tails. Milda's spots are fairly small and Raimis has big spots in the centre of the tail. he also has some long black stripes on both sides of the tail stretching from the back to the tail. i call these "mustache" because these stripes frame his tail like mustache frames a man's mouth.
- unfortunately they don't nearly always show their tails to us.
Milda has also one light feather on the edge of her wing on both sides.
on the first page there are some pictures which will hopefully help in recognizing our eagles.

i made some videos of the eagles' afternoon visit and the eagle who flew to the top. they are on the previous page. also a greater spotted woodpecker visited the nest after the eagles were gone.

good evening!
i made some statistics of the eagle matings and egg-laying schedules that we have observed so far.
i have included all the WTE breeding seasons that we have been able to follow so far. my purpose was to see if it is possible to predict what will happen this spring. at this moment the last column (and the two other columns in bold font) are interesting. the last column give the number of days between the first observed mating and the laying of the first egg.
the two first seasons we have probably not seen from the true beginning. at least in the first season 2009 the camera started too late so we can't have seen the first mating. therefore we cannot give any number in the first season 2009. in 2010 and in 2016 the intervals between the first observed mating and the first egg are of the order of two weeks (slightly under: 12 and 13 days). in the other 3 seasons the numbers are about 3 weeks (or more). two couples seemed to have sex for the fun of it, even after the 1st egg was laid (Durbe and Robert in 2015 and Anna and Uku in 2016). - of course one must remember that the dates & times are observed events. the eagles have probably mated also out of our view.
we observed Milda and Raimis mating here on Feb 6th for the first time, i.e. 11 days ago. it is possible that Milda may lay her 1st egg already next week, but it may happen as well a week later, in the end of February.

Good Morning!
Ame, thanks for videos and comments
Jasminnn I'm not sure, for what it should help you? It's just a hint for the times, so that one can find the event again, to make a video or pictures.

09:40 Good Morning !
It's snowing.
There are calls from the forest in the last hour: Swans, and others... real or "Jay"
Between them, sounded like eagles.

good morning
ame - thank you for the chart - it certainly gives perspective and helps to orient . Of course, what is off camera means we can't be sure ever, but still - it's good to have these rough estimates

11:42 he returned with a small bunch of hay. then he worked some more, even without the Boss.

11:47 Milda came with a small green twig. they worked together...
then they mated. Raimis warmed his toes on her wing this time before Milda shook him off.
then he went to the right branch.

11:56 Raimis returned with a stick. they worked together...
then Milda went to the left branch and further to the top branc. Raimis continued...
then Milda flew out to the meadow and landed on a tree there almost in the horizontal middle of the picture.

12:05 Milda returned with some hay. they worked again... them Raimis wanted to hmmhmmmhmmm again but this didn't work although Milda lay nicely on the nest. she didn't raise her tail this time. again Raimis stood on her wing.
then Raimis went to the top branch.
