This time it looks like they mean to stay!

I just looked up last year. The buzzards last year (don't know if they are the same, they seem to be darker) came first time on April 11 in the afternoon. Page 30 onwards in last year's thread. And they were gone again by around 14th.
Maertha shared an interesting story that time, so let me quote it again here:

maertha wrote:
There is a fascinating buzzard-story in the WTE database, written by Jörg Kasper:
Common breeding of Buzzard (Buteo buteo) and White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) in a nest of White-tailed Eagle

”Members of the Professional Group Ornithologie Niesky watched from a larger distance, but with good observation conditions, an unusual event in a nest: a White-tailed Eagle pair raised up a Buzzard together with their own chick. Both young birds fledged.”

the buzzard who was here this evening looked like the Grey which is a bit confusing as Urmas wrote in the beginning that the female is the darker one. judging by the behaviour this Grey (?) is the female... :puzzled:
anyways: it seems to have false eyes in the back of the head.
Image

this is the real face: two dark eyes on the sides and a third eye in the forehead.

At 20:22 I saw it, too and thought the same, ame.
In the evening I heard the buzzard calling more often.

and then i heard meow - meow.... and the buzzard flew in. it had been sitting somewhere quite close. yes, it was the rustle on the left which i thought was the crow who was calling at 7.36.
Image

in the beginning here the elks come splashing in...

it was at the nest very long. it left at 7.49.

the buzzard came at 8.20 and made some home arrangements, talking to itself. it brought a little something dark but i could not see what it was...? maybe a shrew?
(so far i knew the word shrew only from 'Taming of the Shrew', with these two in main roles: http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/i ... 01_724.jpg  )
Image

then it jumped to the right branch.
Image

now it is sitting there quietly and looking around. a great tit came to say hello, but the buzzard looked at it. it's there on the back branch at about 38 sec after the beginning.

(but in a still picture i wouldn't see it if i didn't know it is there. :D http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss54 ... m12s24.jpg)
it sounds like raindrops. . . .

at 9.51 the buzzard rose up and climbed to the back branch cawing a little.
before that it lay almost immobile in the nest in the pouring rain. it only moved its head a little sometimes. water ran down its back in tiny streams....

now it's staying on the branch...

the buzzard took off at 10.03 without saying anything for a long time.
Image

it just came to my mind, after watching the buzzard lying there flat in the nest, that the false eyes in its back of the head are there on purpose, and not as just an accident! :slap: (or a joke; i was only amused to see them yesterday. :D )
it's a similar pattern as the eye-spots on the wings of several butterflies. the incubating buzzard will look like a threatening "minimonster" seen from the air above.

it has been pouring with rain all day. it doesn't bother the birds: they are singing! :headroll: - i think a redwing is the loudest now.

no sight of the buzzard after it left at 10.04.

and now the buzzard came!
Image

it has a mouse or a vole. :D
Image
it left the vole in the larder and climbed to the back branch.

a little bird with brown back and light belly with dark longish spots visited the nest. it seemed to have a darker stripe above the eye in it grey head. it sang a short verse, too. a robin was singing there at the same time but this was not a robin.
Image ... it was certainly a KBV (kleine braune vogel). :whistling:

was it a dunnock (Prunella modularis)? vainamoinen... :help:

the buzzard is at home and it's eating.

there's a pair of cranes walking down on the ground on the right! :headroll:
Image
the other crane was on the left side of the marked one. ... i think... :puzzled:

they walk in to the picture from the right under the big branch in the beginning of this clip. i noticed them when they were almost going back to the right. 8-)

birds are singing like they have done all day. i guess it's been so cloudy that they think it's morning or evening all day and they go on and on.... on a sunny day most of them have some sort of rest in the middle of the day even in spring.

the buzzard has stayed away from the nest. ...

Difficult to say precisely. Video is very short. Outer appearance is appropriate for dunnock, but sound fragment is very strange. Here is dunnock song pattern.

Rather different from your clip.

i heard some sounds of wings to the other room and when i came to see what was up there was a great tit inspecting the nest. first it looked at where the buzzard had hidden the first vole.
Image

then it checked the place where the buzzard ate the second vole.
Image

before checking the nest it had taken a closer look at the camera, too! :D
