Here he is sitting right in front of their back door.
And here is a parent, apparently calling the youngster up into the wires where life is safer.

Alice, this picture is just precious! The young squirrel is so cute in this pose. The grey squirrels in your area must be different from ours. They are really grey, almost silver colored. We have the Eastern grey squirrel, which in our area actually tend more to be brown with a layer of grey guard hairs above their main fur coat. They also are pretty good sized though not as big as the fox squirrel, which is also in this area. We have the Eastern grey in our immediate neighborhood, though, not the fox.alice44 wrote:

It will be interesting to hear if Kitty says that Squirrel looks like the ones she knows.
My understanding is that it is Eastern Grey Squirrels have "invaded" Europe. I think they are a problem in some areas here, but the ones in my dad's photos are the Western Grey Squirrel.

Another photo from my dad -- of our other squirrel -- these live in the forests, not in the cities near people

I went to central Oregon for a couple of days -- the climate is completely different than the area I live. It is open, wilder, dryer and there are much fewer people.
I'll post a few landscapes and the few animal images I got.
This is in a fossil bearing area of Central Oregon -- the fossils date from the time of the mammals. I think the strata here is about 30 million years old. These hills are a sort of clay and in hard rain falls the clay moves a tiny bit, but I don't think the shapes have changed much in hundreds of years except where we (humans) have poked at them.

This little lizard (a giant compared to Fireblade's toad and even pretty large for his species) I found just off the path at this little walk at the Painted Hills.

We watched this Turkey Gobbler, a couple of hens, (one is just visible on the other side of the fence) and a large number of chicks -- pretty big sized ones, cross the road in front of us.

I think these guys were one of the highlights of my vacation. They are in the John Day River. We saw them very shortly after having seen a coyote run from us after we did a u-turn to see him better. The coyote was not frightened the first time as we drove by, but clearly he knew better than to trust humans who turn about -- having seen him.
But these little guys swam down the river past us, and then did a u-turn to see us better. Only one of the little ones came closer for a still better view, but I did not manage to photograph it. The adults were about 2x or more the size of the youngsters.

Alice, Painted Hill seems very special and overwhelming. And the other landscapes and animals/birds..beautiful pictures. To me it is very special to see Turkeys in the wild, because here they only live in captivity. Thank you for sharing your experience with us

The painted hills really are amazing. There is a whole large area with rather interesting geology and lots of mammal fossils in central to eastern Oregon. Apparently when ever it rains scientists go out looking for newly exposed fossils to rescue.
