It seems impossible, but the heavy wounded big fish was flapping around, on top of the youngest! Piret doesn´t know how to solve that problem. Which is a pity, for she was giving the youngest one a good share of the fish! The youngest one worked himself free from the fish, appearing at the other site. Piret settles down on top of the three chicks ánd the fish.

Good morning!

Maybe punky branch is decorative item meant to stimulate baby birds.

6.20-6.23 He/she sleeping long periods
6.44 He/she with fish, feeding. All baby birds awake, waiting for food.
6.45 Both parents at the nest.
6.45 Other bird took over feeding task.
6.52 Fish gone, baby birds still waiting for food. Other bird eating his/her own fish.
6.53 Baby birds vibrating in one big pile
6.57 Other bird was away for a while. Now arranging sticks. Other bird still eating fish.
7.01 Fish eating bird flew away
7.02 Both parents away. Baby birds still vibrating.

7.03 I gotta go now.

side note: Madis and Piret should have coloured tag, can't tell which is who!

Hello tuomo  glad that you have joined us to document this family. When you can see it, Madis the Father has a ring on his right leg - that is a helpful clue.

I was away for part of the time your recorded in your post - when I came back at 6:42, no parent was in the nest.

8:16 Both parents feed chicks - Madis is feeding #1

... but wait!
Madis eats more than he feeds, so #1 turns to Mama

Then Madis feeds #2 - or does he?
YES! #2 gets several bites from Papa

8:24 Madis flies to the right
8:26 chicks are collapsed in a food coma. Piret stretches and flies off to the right
8:30 Piret returns
8:44 Piret has been feeding (or trying to feed) Chick #1, now Piret leaves the nest)
8:52 Madis has been up on the cam, now he drops to the nest and picks up that pick chunk of fish. He eats.
8:53 Piret returns to the nest. She chirps softly, arranges a stick. A cuckoo is calling.
8:59 Madis has been eating the fish, now he flies to the right. A train whistle blows.

8.15 just when I opened Madis came to nest. Don´t know if he brought food or he found a minor piece of fish in nestbuttom from which he started to eat. Piret got up and found a large fish and began to feed the chicks, who in the meanwhile were awake. Then also Madis started to offer food for chicks, then for several minuts both parents were feeding. And all 3 chicks got food. But they seemed to be well feeded already and couldn´t take much
8.24 Madis left
8.26 Piret left, but back again 8.29 – perhaps with a little stick. She continued feeding, but chicks weren´t hungry, so she took most self and at 8.42 Piret ate the rest of that fish.
8.44 Piret left
8.49 one landed upstairs and within a minut Madis was in nest. He began to eat from the large fish
8.52 Piret back again – first nestarrangements then preening
8.59 Madis left

Hope you didn't have to :shake: (it will mean all plants are allright ) We were at the edge of the storm luckily. No damages here, only in the centre of the country. a major power cut.

Madis brings a large fish with a head and starts feeding himself. (under supervision  )

Edit: this is really funny, because while Madis is feeding, Piret comes from the other side and is removing fallen pieces of fish from the nest.

Piret grabs what is left over from the Salmon and starts feeding nr. 3.
Madis flies away.

Madis is not pushing enough to feed the littlest one, yet, but he completed a feeding of the 2 oldest.

And maybe nr 3 has been eaten after all because now Piret is feeding it, it is soon finished.

Did you just see, that the oldest chick pecked the middle one almost unconcious? I thought (s)he killed the other chick, but not (yet). It doesn't look good. The smallest also will probably die from starvation, no?

Rorty. I THOUGHT I saw and heard aggression from the oldest one to the middle one, but hoped I saw it wrong :puzzled: They go lying flat down when that happens, to stop it. So it was not unconscious, but stopped it by lying down. But I am sad it happened, hopefully only once!!!!

NO, the youngest is being well fed and very often.

Rorty, I watched a Decorah eagles nest and the 3 young did peck at each other from day 1, all the time. But no one ever was hurt. And somebody who knew told me they did it to establish the hierarchy amongst them. Why Osprey's would do it, I don't know. Let's hope it was a one off.
