Thanks! I don't watch them all days long, so this scenery freaked me out but lets hope it is just hierarchy game. Great to hear that little one gets food. I have watched several feedings, but smallest is always the last one who gets food, coz it is behind the others. It made me think, if s/he doesn't get enough food.

about 16.50

Madis brought a salmon, Piret is feeding.

Edit: this feeding it is not going very good. Nr 3 wants to eat but does not move forward. Hopefully Piret will notice it. I'll watch to see what happens.

When the oldest 2 have had enough, little one is getting all it needs in a "special attention-feeding"

The third one is finally getting food after his siblings were fed. Does that hierarchy mean that when the chick grows up, he will also aways be "number three" and not a leader?

18:44 One litle chick is still outside the nestbowl. I am surprised that Piret hasn't urged it back in. By little pushes with her beak & head she could urge it back to the safety and shade under Mom. :puzzled:
Piret must be a first time mother.
Is it hot there today ? Does anybody know the temperature ?

I have only a moment but hope to be back here soon.
NB When and if all theree chick grow a little they will all be alike. Sex is difficult to establish, even when they are ringed.Sometimes they can tell if one is smaller, its probably a male. By taking & anylysing a feather can sex be determined. That very expensive so its rarely done for ospreys.

(Jopie,I'm glad the storm passed you by. Here it was fierce, winds strong and rain thundering down.Luckily no damage, only the flowers on back terrace all flattened. 8-) )

Some notes and a clip from 17:37-17:40

17:37 Piret leaves the nest
17:40 Madis arrives (I saw no prey). An instant later Piret lands and brings some more lichens; Madis leaves

The video shows the arrival of the parents 17:40

Macdoum, there is a major power cut in the centre of our country and wind, rain and thunder we also had, but luckily it was not as bad as forecasted.

Maertha, nice evening to you too

Maybe they only like fresh fishes, or like fresh fishes more: Piret was calling all the time, then Madis came with a small branch who took with him the salmon when flying away.

Edit: 19.51 After Piret's calling, Madis brought back the same fish he took. Funny birds  Piret starts feeding.

21:57 - Madis brings a fish

Piret feeds the little ones, but the smallest prefers to turn around in bed and sleep on

22:35 Piret has just settled on the nest where I saw the biggest leaning over another chick and now I hope Piret doesn't add her weight and smother that one underneath ?

22:38 Piret is settling now and the big chick had moved off th'other.

I imagine it increasingly difficult to brood three chicks!
