19:41 I see its a wet and windy day at the nest. Looks so miserable. Still,Madis is bringing the fish to the young ospreys though its difficult for them to fish on rainy windy days. When the surface of the water is disturbed the osprey cannot see the fish below in the water and its not easy. Still I see Madis is coming up trumps in providing food. :D

19:23: Nori/"S72 alone in the nest, Madis brings 1/2 fish and starts feeding the fish to Nori
About 19:28: Elo/"S9" lands, Madis leaves. "S7" eats the fish
19:30 Uno/"S8" arrives, "S7" still eats the fish

19:23 Madis brings ½ fish and feeds Nori/S9

I believe I read somewhere, that owners of fish farms are entitled to some kind of compensation if they lose a lot of fish to ospreys and other birds. Does anybody know how they determine whether they're eligible for compensation or not?

Hi Yiki, I don´t know if your question is still current. Yes, according to Urmas, every fishpond owner can apply for compensation.

There is an interesting article by Joosep Tuvi and Ülo Väli about this topic:

The impact of the White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla and the Osprey Pandion haliaetus on Estonian Common Carp Cyprinus carpio production: How large is the economic loss?

"Protected bird species have been suspected to be a cause of a significant economic loss at Estonian fish farms, but its extent has remained unexplored. We counted the number of White-tailed Eagles and Ospreys, and the quantity of fish they take, and analysed the economic loss in five carp farms in 2001/2004."

It might be that you find some answers here.

Hi! I am new here in forum, but I regularly follow all cameras linked on lloduskalener :bounce: And I must say, I feel very attached to every single one of the birds of prey. :chick:
The loss of Stephi was devastating, I am still not over it, although I know, that that is the nature of the nature.

As evening approaches, rain continues to fall on the Osprey nest. When it finally lets up, two of the young Osprey leave. Nori is once again left alone in the nest.

around 8:40 PM EEST

1st fledge: Uno 8/5/2012 (S8)
2nd fledge: Elo 8/6/2012 (S9)
not yet: Nori (S7)

Nori will fledge when she's ready

21.50: Finally a nice quiet evening, no rain, no wind, just a few flies buzzing around. Nori's sleeping and dreaming about better weather and to finally fly free in the sky.

Sorry to say it seems to be raining tomorrow too, but Friday looks like nice weather. I think Nori will fledge on Friday.

The others could very well be sleeping up on the cam and on branches near the nest :)

Here is part II of the already mentioned feeding from 19:23

Madis, the male eagle, feeds Nori/“S7”. Elo/“S9” returns to the nest, Madis disappears (beam me up, Scotty…), Nori snatches the fish. Uno/“S8” arrives

Elo comes nearer, Madis and Nori are watching him/her

"S8", "S9", "S7" and a fish in the nest. The winner takes it all

Part I is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Pa0wZ3OSQ (Madis brings ½ fish and feeds Nori, the youngest eagle)

And again rain started for poor lonely Nori :-(((((

By the way: Can anybody tell me, why there's still light at the horizont (22:57 EEST)? Usually it's already dark (black monitor) at this time :puzzled:
