For someone who lives where there is almost no snow -- just all this snow is amazing.

This raven is very bold -- pulling the meat even as the eagle is eating.

someone who lives where there is almost no snow does not need to do snow-work...
for us others this kind of weather is not only amazing...
if this snowing will not calm down soon i'm afraid we shall not be able to make ring readings.

it looks like solid snow-flakes are falling from the sky but the temperature must be very close to zero. thee heat produced by the camera makes the camera shield warm enough to melt those flakes which hit the shield. what weather! :slap:

oh no Flex! you posted practically the same picture while i was so slow (or the Bucket was slow) :rotf:

I was away for a week, in Israel for a conference and there was very good opportunity during the presentation to switch smoothly to the our webcam transmission and all worked that moment perfectly, zooming to the rings, Finnish rings easy to read, then wide view to the eagles perching on the trees behind - perfect!
So I'm proud about the voluntary operators behind the scene! Unfortunately there was no enough time to speak about forum you are running, as that is not possible during some seconds, but as home work for participants it was mentioned.

About the gifs.
Noticed also the slowing down the speed during the gifs, but thought its my personal connection problem. Now there are some easy things to do as read of your posts, to avoid problems if those appear with gifs.
Maybe there is also possibility, that the gifs are possible to run manually, e.g. on the picture, there is is some label created to click for to see gif ?? Then everybody could see, that current image is a gif and in case of need it is possible to launch as gif?
These are only the ideas, actually I do not know anything about gif making... but enjoy those you made.

i saw that there has been a long and fruitful discussion about gif-animations during the time when i was away on the Feather Islands  (Sandman takes Finns to Feather Islands)

it seems that there are really many things to consider, but they seemed to be mostly technical and mainly they seem to deal with the speed of either our computers or the speed of the internet connection that we are using.

i always blame my data transmission rate of any problems that limit the things that i can do, because it seems that uploading videos or gifs (which are rather big in size as GM74 pointed out!) or even a large number pictures makes the live cameras freeze and stop. otherwise the camera picture streams (usually!) without problems. so in practice i can't upload videos if i want to makes sure that the stream from a live camera doesn't break. last summer i could not watch other cameras than the buzzards' nest because of this and i missed ospreys and storks and Stephi as a baby...

in Kitty's case there must be some other limitation if she can watch the gifs in another browser window with no problems. for me png-pictures are uploaded very slowly in the forum pages. probably that is because they are bigger files than jpg's (about 300 kBytes compared to about 50 Kbytes of jpg-pictures) even though they look exactly the same. -on the other hand i can watch 4 videos in one post and have two live cameras all working at the same time with no problems!

making the gifs smaller would make them updated more quickly for Kitty but then Alice wouldn't see them well (and they would upload much more quickly into the Bucket!) a Finnish proverb says "suo siellä, vetelä täällä" which in English would be something like "swamp here but quicksand over there" ... but for Alice everything seems to be slow: pictures, gifs and videos...? :slap:
- i think it might not hurt anyone to follow her suggestion: "But I suggest we all try posting fewer images per post -- not fewer images just more posts."

it seems that Kitty has found solutions for her problems now and so we can still make the gifs bigger for Alice. -one problem which still left is why the Bucket works so slowly for aita. the Bucket isn't quick for me either but for her it seems to be almost uncomprehensible... :puzzled:

it seems that the Bucket will change to the new set-up in three weeks no matter how much we complain about it. i have started to upload my pictures to Mejuba which 0Hansen once found for Pontu pictures. that is one alternative for putting pictures. it's not perfect but it has developed better and what's most important their team replies promptly to questions and they are willing to make Mejuba better according to the hints they are given (unlike some others...) it's free (i don't think they even have any chargeable accounts) and they have no limits in storage or bandwith. i think it might be one alternative and worht looking at. it can be found here:

If the occasional gif is left bigger I will be content.

(I do think the next time I buy a computer I need to explain what I do, I think somehow this computer which is bigger and faster processes video less well than my older one, which would barely work firefox.)

I am not 100% sure there have been no ringed eagles. When they stand or walk in the snow or hunker down on a branch it is hard to see.

Oops same as Ame's

It is interesting that the snow is melting on the plexi protector. I had not thought of camera heat, but it must be that.

The quality of this new snow still seems perfect for raven snow baths. They seem to be enjoying themselves very much.

it seems that it is the right "cheek" of the camera that is beaten by the blizzard.
Image

this is a view over the right "shoulder": frosting of snow on one side of the trees.
Image

the direction to the meadow is worst.

now there was a ringed adult on the ground for a second but it seems to have disappeared somewhere in the snow... this looks like Dark Rings.
Image

or maybe it got up in the tree? there are three eagles there, two young and an adult lowest.

Transmission, videos, gifs etc

(I will take this to Ranting - in fact wrote, but then deleted a long post there the other day - just some lines here)

I have had occasion to go back a few years on Forum. There is so much more information today. Wonderful.
But: these days I also quite often just give up, haven't patience to wait for a forum page to get ready, jumping here & there while loading it all.
It isn't about "some having problems with their transmission". It is the deluge to be transmitted making problems for me.
