1) Mai delivers her first own-catched fish to the osprets

2) Mikk feeds an ospret for the first time
And isn't it also a premiere, that one of the chicks eats and swallows a fish tail on her/his own?

@ Aita, I like your recording of the brave chick's work, struggle and victory with the big fish tail - I saw it live, but your zoom on it was a pleasure to see it again!

One of them managed it already earlier, maybe even earlier than at this event ...

Right, I still think the bravery today was worth mentioning: the chick chewed a long time quite a lot fish flesh of the fish tail before swallowing the rests of it. And s/he took over and over again a correct grab on the food with the talons, what I consider quite well developed. Maybe it was the same chick as 16th July ... One who is getting independent first ... :D

I just had a good laugh --- at the moment the egg is used as a pillow for comfortable leg-stretching :rotf:

It's amazing how she knows that it is not Mikk who came shortly after with a fish. There were alarm calls I think while he was in the nest.

News!

It turned out that the Osprey, who paid a visit to the nest here viewtopic.php?p=409877#p409877 was not wearing rings with letter AY, but with letters AX

AY is not possible, as this ring was attached lately to an osprey chick which has not yet fledged .

But guess who wears this ring AX?

It is female Osprey Tiiu, which we know well from migration map, as she wore a transmitter for last migration.

She is the female of the nest in neighboured territory.

Some more news about Tiiu and her mate here in migration map topic:

Wings in the air at 13:18h. Not sure if this is an Osprey or not. Could have been Mai also and not somebody else.

No informations yet, Birdfriend.

In previous years we were informed short before these events, so I am confident that it will be so this year also.

I suppose that such decisions, what to do on which day, is often short-termed. Also depending on weather, available time and much more.

Wow, what great news! Thank you, Bea! :loveshower:
So interesting, also that they are neighbours!
Very good to learn, that Tiiu has made it! I admire these birds.

The ringers are almost there judging from the sounds....poor babies are so scared...they can't possibly lay flatter on the nest....

Mai and/or Mikk are heard in the distance....alarm calls...they must be very scared for their chicks....the egg has been retrieved and stored in a container....measurements/sizing is done on the chicks right now...clean lense (for now  )...soon will be finished...rings are CA and CC..

Me too Bea....that's always the scary part for me....hoping they don't abandon their chicks and nest from fear....looks like they are finished...
