I don't see any damage. There is a black, very old feather in front.

Today at 11:22 Margo left the nest and Mr. Y came from 11:26-11:30 to protect the egg - he did not settle down, kept standing over it



Same game from 11:41-11:48 .... Margo came in at that time

At 16:31 Margo got up to stretch a bit, but settled down again for short time, she left at 16:50

The egg was alone from 16:50 to 18:12, when Mr. Y paid a short visit to it - still no sign of Margo to warm the egg



Until now I haven´t noticed any delivery of food from the male to the incubating female, perhaps she had to go hunting by herself?

I thought the males deliver prey to the incubating females on the nest, can´t remember having read somewhere that they have an external hand-over-place

This male looks also as if it is a still young cavalier ....

Hello everybody A Goshawk cam!! I didn´t think they were nesting so close to people, since they appear as a shy and withdrawn birds here. I have to admit that I believed that they were "forest birds", hunting in silence between the trees, and sometimes to be seen high in the sky, floating on the wind. And also they used to hunt on my chickens some years ago.

Liz, yes - I know Brodowski´s webpage, but couldn´t find a hint about handing over prey in incubation times.

Male Goshawk´s task is to provide the female with food during incubation and for ~3 weeks for female and hatchlings, after this time the female begins to hunt for food also.

But I found a note in one of my books "Greifvögel und Eulen" from Heintzenberg

"Während der 37-39 Tage Tage der Brutdauer wird das Weibchen vom Männchen mit Beute versorgt. Diese wird häufig in einem Übergaberitual in Nestnähe an das Weibchen übergeben."


Translation - as good as I can

"During incubation time of 37-39 days the male provides the female with prey. Prey is often handed over from the male to the female close to the nest."

So probably there will happen no hand-overs on the nest and in cam view currently and we can´t see which prey is hunted. But as soon as there are hatchlings, prey has to come to the nest - ha!
