Lotte came in with - a bird? She placed it in the hind larder, no feeding for the owlets.

Older owlet was under the cam again :D

Owlets were already waiting, older one making its hopping exercises - when Lotte returned with a rat. Older owlet managed to get it and tried to swallow it in whole, but was not successful, rat is still too big.

03:46
Later owlets were dragging the rat around, back and forth, both made several attempts with self feeding during the night.

There was feeding with a bird later in the morning, most of the time view was blocked from Lotte, can´t say whether it was the bird from this night or leftovers from the Tawny Owl ...

Lotte with a mouse (or is it a vole? so dark fur?) for the younger owlet

It didn´t gulp it immediately, first chewed and nibbled on it for some minutes, then it went down.

Lotte with a mouse for the older owlet, it also didn´t swallow it immediately, took its "prey" to the camside corner

04:04
It carried its mouse to the other side of the nest ....

04:06
Still busy with its meal ...

Can´t say exactly when this mouse was eaten, first owlet was sitting on it, then again nibbling ... turning around, covering it ...

Sense of achievement for Leo - he managed to deliver a mouse straight to the younger owlet before Lotte drove him away again

Another mouse came in, older owlet could take it from Lotte.

Lotte made a short cam check before she went out again.

The owlets looked up, then big surprise as Stefan climbed down!
He was only there 7 minutes to complete ringing.
The owlets were very calm. :D

Yes, owlets were so brave .... only a bit hissing and clacking with beaks :D
In the beginning one can hear a Peregrine Falcon complaining, owlets are listening and looking in the sky.

Video is a bit juddery in the beginning, I suppose so many people were watching this event and the cam server was running hot :D

Stefan Brücher left at 20:13 and the first owlet stopped playing dead at 20:46

Unfortunately I could hardly understand was he was saying, sound quality was so bad, maybe he was too far from the microphone.

And Stefan Brücher left muskrat in the larder, as compensation for the excitement --- so no shortage of food for the family tomorrow :shake:

Older owlet was still flat when Lotte arrived - with a mouse, and younger owlet grabbed it.
Life was back quickly in older owlet
Lotte had a look at the surprisingly filled larder and took a muskrat away with her.

22:29
Lotte came back, with empty talons, fetched the second muskrat from the larder and began to feed the owlets.
Close up a little later in the video.

Lotte left at around 22:50

13. May

Not much to report about night activities - I saw no new prey coming in, Lotte was there to feed the owlets with muskrat.

My recordings end at 04:44, can´t say what happened later.

14:20 Self-feeding of older owlet behind Lotte's left side.
14:25 Little one with the looong tail of muskrat in the beak, but it works.
14:27 Feeding is finished. Younger owlet is been fed by Lotte.

WOW  The older owlet managed to gulp a whole rat ...

Video is a bit longer, because I wanted to show the first unsuccessful attempt, too .... first it pulled the rat to its side, nibbled on it for a while and then made the first try to gulp it, but it failed, then, after a while of thinking, it made the second attempt and now it worked .....

I have seen the small feets of the rat, but thought, it was a part of the muskrat. :slap:
...
Late and not the best quality, however that may be - here are some screenshots of the ringing yesterday evening.

Stefan B. is cutting a twig, which can disturb owlets - and the cam view on them.
