The area around Guadalhorce is really a rich source. Small but mighty! This also thinks the stilt:

Birgit tells her yesterday experiences here:

It was a long weekend in Spain and so Birgit and her friend took the chance to travel to the Extremadura, - the birds paradise. Never before they saw cranes int heir winter habitat. And now they saw them there - although the weather conditions were not too nice!

Here you can read the photo-report. Don´t forget your umbrella!!!

Thank you so much, Brit for the photograps and stories by Birgit! There are such wonderful pictures. Even a Hoopoe!.. :faint: If only for once in my life I could see that bird in live (and of course many others I have seen in my dreams...)

Best wishes from Finland, Olga.

Only a few kilometres away from the home of Birgit there is the reservoir of Guadaiza. And although it is rather dried-up there the creek Guadaiza is always watered, because on its banks a real nice biotope was created around which is the home of numerous sing birds. And right now during winter time you can see them everywhere there. Birgit loves to drive to this place, because there is always something to be seen.

This little willow warbler on its wheel barrow …

a little better, if you like to do so.

The biotope-frogs are dozing in these months half hibernating and don´t give a sound. But this heron obviously anyhow discovered them in the homey biotope:

Image

But for this time the frogs were lucky, because I had been there with the camera, which Mr. Heron didn´t like at all. Here is the story:

There really was not much action in Fuente de Piedra last Saturday:

Image

Not a single flamingo … but I discovered groups of cranes on the surrounding fields. Too far away for making photos.

In the meantime it is raining and raining and this gives us hope that the lagoons of Fuente de Piedra very soon will be a home for the great number of water birds.

But last week it looked like that:

On the photo abowe the egrets and white storks are so funny when they are standing there and almost all watching to the same direction like an audience.. Only three white storks are watching behind.. I just wonder what might be there to see!

Hi Olga,

it was soooo funny to see all those storks and egrets looking in the same direction and they stood there for a long while so seriously. The reason? They had have enough food and they were enjoying a sun bath, with their faces towards the sun. :)

Time has come. The aloes are blooming, very much to the delight of bees and chiffchaffs!

At the moment Birigt is taking every chance of the few ridges of high pressure to look around the bird areas after the strong rainfalls. Yesterday they went to La Janda and gheeeeeeee ... finally they saw him, the black-shouldered kite:
