White-tailed Eagles Discussion ~ 2010 ~ Linda & Sulev
Editing to add the happy news that this webcam is now streaming live and Sulev has been to the nest a few times (3rd. March 2010)

While we are waiting for Linda and Sulev to occupy their snowy nest we can keep checking the Pontu site to see if they have been there.
They were at the nest yesterday as we can see from the footprints in the snow, and from an image from 10.04 that morning.

To change to the current picture, we need to know that the date and time forms the URL as shown here http:// pontu.eenet.ee/kotkas/2010-02-03/2010-02-03-10-04.jpg
To see an updated image type the date and time in the address bar.
It is a fiddly thing to do but it's amazing what we can do when we really want to!
Good luck - please ask for help if you get into difficulties.
Pontu captures still images at one minute intervals. When the nest is active we shall have a live streaming webcam.

The camera angle is a little bit changed this year, isn't it? Pontu view from this morning http://pontu.eenet.ee/kotkas/2010-02-07 ... -10-05.jpg (Snow looks untouched)
The field on the right-hand side in the background surely wasn't so clearly visible. And the thick branches of the nest tree were to the left.
Nice to see the surroundings!

I agree, Liis.
It is a much better view of this nest. Urmas did a wonderful job of placing the camera.

Hello, Sofija, we don't know yet, the web camera isn't really on-line, see Jo's post at top of this page. We can only pick up .jpg images - one by one - from "Pontu" now, taken and stored at 1 minute intervals. (Jo explains how to)Sofija1001 wrote: What is the "mms " adres of this camera?

I know, among watchers are different opinions about camera image - some prefere wide view, others closer one...
Last summer broke a branch of neighboring tree together with camera, but fortunately the branch did not fall down. So we had no good place for camera now and the current is the almost single possibility. The camera is now about 2 meters of nest centre, that means about 1,5 meters of closest edge of the nest. The camera is a bit hided by rubber cover, hope less waterdrops will appear on lens.
Can't say, when the stream will be available... as soon as possible!

Untouched snow in nest today too
http://pontu.eenet.ee/kotkas/2010-02-08 ... -17-35.jpg
Camera seems to be switched off at about 17.30-18.00 (5.30-6 pm); this is nearly the last available pic for today.

Thanks Liis.
I keep checking it, looking for footprints! I don't think they have been back for another visit yet.

Linda cam has the option, what swithes the system out for dark time automatically, to save batteries, as there is few sun for to get enough energy for all day and night.
Seems Linda and Sulev visited nest for every case by mild weather - to check if all right... Next visit could be if the weather turns again a bit warmer, but we will see.

Sun is shining, quiet in the nest, seems that Sulev and Linda didn't visit their home during last days...

Maybe eagles always check the nest one time in winter and then wait for spring until it is the time to lay eggs.

Liis, so sorry. Yesterday I posted about this, but on the wrong forum!
News from Renno and Urmas - the solar panels are completely covered in snow and so the batteries are quite discharged.
We need some sunshine and new batteries, which Urmas has and will replace them (or does Renno do that?) soon.
Thanks for asking that question.

Thank you, Jo and Urmas + Renno for update.
Please, Urmas and Renno, no climbing in snowy, icy trees - we do need you safe and sound very much more than Pontu images.

Renno is working hard in the snow, carrying 35 kg batteries, so now we can see the Pointu images again.
Remember to change the date and time in the URL
Thank you Renno - heroic work, in this weather.
