Post by Jo UK »

Black Stork( Ciconia nigra)

Nest is located somewhere in Jõgevamaa
Exact location is protected by Law of Nature Conservation

Webcam:

We have followed the lives of Black Storks in this nest since 2007
First, on another forum
http://discuss.hancockwildlifechannel.o ... =76&t=1641

Then in 2008 and 2009 (no storks nested there last year  )

The summary of 2008 season is here
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18.

You can find more at viewforum.php?f=2

We don't yet know what 2010 has in store for us, but oh!, how we hope :loveshower:
Storkaholics feel better already :gathering:

A month ago I supposed two things may happen this season:
1. it will be Toomas again to arrive in the nest first;
2. the nest may become "two storeyed".

And what do you think?

Today we with Joosep used fine weather to install Black Stork nest cam.
Last year we had two cameras on the nest, but now there is one - to secure power sufficiency for streaming. Two cameras need twice energy, but our batteries in forest are not very fresh already... Nevertheless, the camera is the newest possible from Mobotix producers store at the moment - we will see if that gives also better quality.
The snow in forest is quite deep over rubber boots and in lower places there is water under snow (the ground is frozen), but the fields are almost clean. Yesterday (probably) first BS was observed in SE Estonia, near Latvian border.

The migration map for our tagged birds will open in Monday - by current data no one of these birds are in Estonia, but Oss and Valdur are not far.

Thank you for good news. When I've read Looduskalender (if I can read Estonian :dunno: :rotf: ) I'd thought it was joke. But in WMP I'd checked - no, it's true!!! I hope in this season will any technical problems and ... our storks in this year will reach success.

Have you any news about Miss Little and Miss Big (about young storks from 2008 season too)? :?:

Because last year the nest remained unchanged, all the moss and grass are still there and Padis may decide that he must bring some fresh building materials and put them on the old nest as a second layer.
