Or has the photograph been altered? It just looks artificial!

So it really is a blue stork, and not just a blue photograph!
Then he has swallowed something which is being excreted via his skin and plumage.
What on earth would do that?

Right you are macdoum, they are discussing the reason for the blue coloring. One meant, that he was at a garbage dump in Spain and got the colour from there, the others mean that somebody shot the blou colour on the stork. But all agreed, that the stork would not have problems to find a partner. And right they are, because the couple is complete and the partner (most likely the female) is normal coloured as the picture above also shows!macdoum wrote: (sorry I do not understand German but I presume that the villagers are commenting on ..)

From the article:
"Attempts were made to get a feather from the stork or its nest, for chemical analysis which might help explain the source of the blue color. But conservation organizations intervened to stop the activity which might have scared off any potential mate.
So curious crowds are left to speculate. Theories circulating in German newspapers include:
* Did the stork fall into some paint while seeking food in a garbage dump?
* Did someone paint it, or shoot at it with a paint gun?
* Could coloring in its food cause blue feathers?
* Did the stork spend time in the dye works at Maghreb, while flying through Morocco on its migrations?
* Could it be due to mutations?
Ornithological expert Michael Kaatz has calmed German bird-lovers by reassuring us that the blue color will fade and finally disappear within two years, as the stork naturally loses and replaces its feathers. But we have found no such assurances regarding any effects a chemical dyestuff might have on the bird's health as it preens its feathers. Just one more reason substitution of safer chemicals is always a good idea."

Here is a follow-up on a previous article in our newspaper:
http://www.lalsace.fr/fr/region/alsace/ ... arges.html
Basically the article says that the person responsible for following the White Storks
(so emblamatic of Alsace) is intruiged by the constant visits of storks to this open-air dump. ...Gerard Wey.
The storks have been frequenting this site for 10 years but there is no longer any food there for storks. Since 3 years the visits have been in constant progress and it is a real mystery as to WHY.
Do they come from habit or has this become a social ritual ? M.Wey has asked the employees there to try and keep a register of the storks visits, not only during the winter but all year round.
Following the incident with elastic-bands,the latest mishap has a stork with a teat from a baby's bottle stuck on his beak ( oops sorry ) which fortunately they could remove befrore the WS died from lack of water.
Article goes on to say that National Television France 2 has done a reportage on this very curious habit and will be diffused during the coming week.

The 'blue' stork in Germany has chicks:
