Other Birds and Animals Around the Eagle Cam

Cranes ?, distant, many. A few a little clearer calls at about 7.10+
Flock of birds passing over at about 7.15, large, wing sound like swans or similar size
A crow, not very near

Maybe it would help if someone who know this area - Kotkaklubi, Renno, others? - could give us a list of the most usual birds now, and coming?
So we can try to learn their sounds and be prepared if something unusual turns up. Or would that be a too long list?
For instance in the mornings, around 5.30-8, there are lots of bird voices in the background, as often at a sea or lake shore in spring, sometimes a flock flying over: cranes? geese? others?

So many voices are all day and nobody write about them....I know voice of crans, and sometimes flew over the forest flocks of any kind birds. Maybe someone explain to us who there were?

Think it was Great Tit (Parus major), sounds a bit technical due the low quality of microphone in camera.

i found two Pontu-pictures from spring 2009, on May 4th at 8.54 - 8.55, where a black-and-white woodpecker is visiting the eagles' nest. it had gone unnoticed then at that time.


it was there long enough to be captured in two Pontu-pictures:

is it a female lesser spotted woodpecker Dendrocopos minor?
it's early May so no young birds are a round yet, and therefore it must be an adult. i can't see any red colour on it which both the great spotted woodpecker D. major and minor males should have on their heads. the third black&white woodpecker would be the Eurasian three-toed woodpecker (Picoides tridactylus), but both sexes there have more black on their wings and shoulders. i can't see how many toes this bird has...?
so i think it's a female D. minor. - can anyone who knows birds better confirm this? or tell what bird this is if it's not D. minor?

i found some lesser creatures near the eagles' nest.
i made a short movie of them. let's see whether this works at all... i suppose it's best to watch this in full screen mode. look at the tree trunk near the camera on the left.
when my hubby saw this he started to wonder whether it's time to call the nice young men in their clean white coats....

if you look carefully and replay a few times i think you'll be able to see more than just one fly. the trunk is practically crawling with them!

last year i used to have difficulties in identifying who is Linda and who is Sulev if i did not see their ankles. people who had watched them a lot more than i were able to identify them by just looking at the head shape, i.e. the profile of the bird. Linda (and other female eagles) have the tendency of ruffling the feathers on top of the head. the males, on the other hand, tend to keep the head feathers flat and thus they have a more stream-lined profile..

this is not always the case. how about this: who is who if we don't know it?!

i found a sequence of Pontu pictures where Sulli and Kluti are sleeping side by side and Linda is guarding them on the branch. it almost looks as though the eaglets were holding each other by the neck. at least their feet are criss-cross and they strecth and wiggle their toes while they sleep. this "film" is made of 41 pictures taken in the afternoon on June 9th 2009. each picture is shown for half a second.
