October 17th

:hi: everyone!

The ravens and crows have completely turned the nest inside out while the Osprey are on their migration south. May they...everyone from Juvenile to Adult be safe.
Nest life is different now.
I like the morning mist and am amused when the crows buzz around the place a bit.

There is still the second stream of Goitzsche Wilderness. There we can not only see the eerily beautiful movement of the weather, but also the inhabitants of the humid environment.

Ravens in love, crows, other smaller wild birds - and kestrels can also be seen and heard here.

The kestrel tries to chase away the raven sitting on the camera...

...without success.

The game has been going on like this for a while.

The system is powered by solar. This causes the stream to run very irregularly. Nevertheless, one or two moments can definitely be followed here.

:hi: Polly
I love this camera too...one question; I'm really not an expert so please don't misunderstand my question. But I think it's not a kestrel but a tree falcon.....last picture

@sova, thank you so much for correcting! :2thumbsup:

Previously they were kestrels, but these are actually not kestrels.
Peregrine falcons... tree falcons... I confess I can't say exactly.
But surely someone knows.
...so please don't misunderstand my question
Never!
Thank you very much! :innocent:

I'm just outside talking to my husband with a cigarette about my misfortune and I now know where my mistake comes from. :rotf:

*look at the hawk in this situation...

*and here ...

(The very next moment the falcon is different! I wasn't really paying attention. )

The next one has different plumage!
Do we have both?

:help:

In the end I'm no wiser but I'm a laugh richer.

3 days later, November 25th - still flocks of starlings.

Maybe they'll stay?
Image

Image

Their plumage appears brighter than starlings actually are.
Or are they not starlings?

The kestrel also often sits on its vantage point - close to its nest in the metal frame.

February 26th

The time of the arrival of the ospreys is slowly approaching. Until then, the flirting pair of ravens, crows and rarely smaller friends remain loyal visitors to the nest. I haven't seen the falcons in a while. :puzzled:

A red kite today. It is one, right?

I don't know what bird it is but a raptor for sure.
There were this time. One leaves the place when the other came.

The eyrie remains well attended otherwise.
Crows anyway, the ravens in love, starlings have been leading a beautiful parade for a few days.

10. March

Good morning Osprey fans
Today I discovered a beautiful nest. :D

SEOBirdLife - Sociedad Española de Ornitología
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzXDDs5lnW4

It is a completely natural nest built by ospreys on a cliff about 50 meters above sea level in the interior of the Cabrera archipelago. Terrestrial National Park. There is evidence of continuous use since at least 2016.

Ospreys are widespread in the Northern Hemisphere and Australasia. In Spain it is found mainly on the coasts of Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Andalusia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, as well as in the southwest of Extremadura. The breeding population is less than 50 pairs, half of them in the Balearic Islands. The wintering areas of more northerly specimens are mainly concentrated in the Andalusian Atlantic arc.

The osprey is classified as “EN – Vulnerable” in the Red Book of Birds of Spain and is listed as “VU – Vulnerable” in the Spanish Catalog of Endangered Species. For more information about the species, see https://seo.org/ave/aguila-pescadora

THE NATIONAL PARK The maritime-terrestrial national park Cabrera Archipelago is located in the Balearic Islands, about 20 kilometers south of Mallorca. It consists of a group of islands and islets and their surrounding waters, with Cabrera being the largest of the islands. It has an area of approximately 91,000 hectares, of which 1,300 hectares are land. In 2023, the NP hosted 6 pairs of ospreys, 5 of which successfully bred, with a total of 5 fledged chicks. The archipelago is also home to the most important populations of seabirds and coastal raptors in the western Mediterranean, including the European petrel, Mediterranean shearwater, Balearic shearwater, peregrine falcon and Eleanor's falcon. Further information about the national park can be found at the following links:

The first osprey has arrived at the nest. :headroll:
It is not one of the resident couple. No rings, pretty dark plumage.

Loch of The Lowes, Scotland
09.03.2024
Breeding female osprey NC0, who was last seen on 15 July 2023, has returned to her nest at our Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve. This will be her 5th breeding season at Lowes. She was spotted on Friday 8 March at 17:52 remaining on the nest until 18:07. She started picking up sticks to get the nest ready for the 2024 breeding season. In the past NC0 has arrived on the 28th, 25th, 23rd, 17th and this year the 8th March - a whole 9 days earlier than an already unusually early return. It’s a really interesting and unusual pattern. Generally birds are fairly consistent in their return time, and usually males arrive a good week to 10 days before their mate to pimp up the nest, although last season both the Lowes ospreys returned on the 17th March!

Ferenz, thank you! :2thumbsup:

4ZE arrived on March 17th.
Meanwhile there is a strange female in the nest. Probably in transit?
Fish deliveries and first approaches can be seen.

By the way, in the background there is a crow that is meticulously observing everything. :whistling:
