North East Florida Eagle Cam

Post by Bea »

☼ ☼ ☼

The former Romeo & Juliet nest cam has got some renovations and is now called

"The Hamlet"

The American Bald Eagle couple, which will hopefully nest there, was named Samson and Gabrielle

Informations about the new resident couple Samson and Gabrielle and more (nest history, cam history) are provided on the webpage of the American Eagle Foundation (The Hamlet, Northeast Florida Bald Eagle Nest Cam)

https://nefleaglecam.org/

Here one can chose between several cams, to show different views to the nest and also find a link to a .pdf-file, that shows the characteristics/differences of both Eagles:

Some posts about the new couple Samson and Gabrielle can already be found on the last pages of the "old" topic of Romeo & Juliet

Bea, thank you very much for your effort to give this couple their own theme/place. :2thumbsup:

I am very excited at the moment. I look at the camera every day but I don't find the time to edit and adjust pictures.
I hope it will get better very soon. (I know it. )

The nest looks wonderful!
Too bad that there is no more interest in Samson and Gabby. Or is it just not shared here?

Everything is ready to lay eggs. :2thumbsup:
Also Romeo and JulieT always had time for the first egg at the beginning of November.

Although ... :whistling:
Regarding "Egg Watch" - it takes roughly 5 - 10 days from a successful mating for an egg to be laid. There are a lot of factors for that to happen though! The mating obviously has to be successful. But the female also has to be in her fertile period as well. Females are fertile for about a 2 week span. You will see the eagles mating more frequently now to insure that all the parts align while she is fertile. Since the first really good mating was caught on cams last Sunday, the comment was made that we "could" be on egg watch starting this past Friday (Nov 1st) - IF the mating was successful and IF Gabrielle was fertile. There are no visual clues to indicate the female is fertile and no visual clues to indicate that she is with egg. One indication that she might be ready to lay an egg - they will create a nest cup within the nest bowl for the eggs so that when they incubate, they are not putting all their weight on the eggs. When we see Gabrielle laying in the nest more and more and for longer stretches, that is another indication. With no previous history on these two since we are pretty sure they are first timers, all we can do is sit back and watch and guess. Right now, they haven't created the nest cup and Gabrielle isn't laying in the nest as much as we would hope to see, so chances are she won't be laying an egg in the next couple of days - but you never know!

Abigyl and Birdfriend were heard. :rotf: :2thumbsup:

Unfortunately something has been sitting in front of the lens for a few days now. Right in the middle... . :slap:

Thanks Mamicja!
