In the great tit nest with webcam the first chicks were hatched on June 25th and on July 12th [date of the Estonian text], they were 17 days old. Usually great tit nestlings leave the nest in their third week of life, in periods with abundant food already at 15 days

In previous years the great tit chicks left the webcam nests at 18-19 days old. Count and watch!

Thus the chicks may leave the nest already tomorrow or the day after tomorrow [text written 12.07.2017]. Then we will also know if all eight nestlings leave or if the two chicks that hatched last and are much smaller will be left behind the others.

Mostly, young birds leave the nest in early morning immediately after sunrise. Bird svience news page  Linnuvaatleja explains why precisely this is a good time ( Leave the nest in early morning! )
