The third egg the starling laid half past 10

Starling            Kuldnokk        Sturnus vulgaris

The first egg we spotted in the nest box in the evening of April 22, the second in the morning of April 24 and the third in the morning of April 25.

Yesterday only the female stayed for the night in the nest. Since the first egg onwards the female has tried to make it clear to her partner that egglaying should be a discrete act and the stronger sex should spend the night outside during that period – tried to explain in the evenings nicely as well as in harsher ways with the beak which looked quite like a family quarrel until they went to rest, tiredly.

5-6 eggs is the most common number in starling nests. Both sexes are involved in the incubation.
