Black stork pair at nest, male Karl at left replaces brooding female Kati
Black stork Must-toonekurg Ciconia nigra
A brief survey: the eggs appeared in Kati’s nest on April 12, 14, 16 and 17. The incubation time lasts about one month for large birds, so we can begin to expect hatching of the chicks from mid-May.
The last couple of days with rain and cold weather was replaced by sunshine today – it dries the nest a little; the adults are busy draining the bottom.

As female Mari arrives, male Mihkel makes room for her in the foreground
Buzzard Hiireviu Buteo buteo
Buzzards start breeding in their third year. As nest tree they prefer pine, birch, spruce, more seldom aspen; the same nest is generally used only during a few years, whereupon the pair looks for a new nest place.
A brief survey of their nest life too: female Mari laid the eggs on April 6,9 and 12, the buzzard females start incubating at once, and incubation may last 33-34 days. So we might expect the hatching of the first buzzard chick on May 10 and the next ones will hatch at the same intervals as the eggs were laid..
