It is quite complicated to observe the high brown fritillary on sunny days ; it only stops to feed on flowering plants , so one has to be lucky. The flight style is powerful, and we can meet this butterfly in open forest landscapes and hayfields, also at forest roads. The orange of the upper side of the wings is decorated by an almost black script pattern, and the wing edges have a dotted fringe. The undersides of the wings vary, but eyecatching white flecks are always noticeable. Arne’s photo at the end shows a high brown fritillary with closed wings.
