Ringlet
Dark brown upper sides of wings and two barely visible eye-marks (ocelli) on each wing. The wing span is up to five centimetres. An abundant and ever more often seen butterfly, in all kinds of locations: road sides and forest verges, even in open country. The exteriors of the male and female are quite similar, but the male can be blackish-brown.
The brown undersides display yellow borders and black eye marks with white pupils.
A little rain doesn’t stop their flights. In August the ringlets are rather ragged from wear.
