There are actually several “daisies” with similar flowers: the scentless mayweed (Matricaria perforata) has leaves reminding of dill on its stems, the flowers of the naturalised scented chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) are smaller and we find them at roadsides, but the very similar corn chamomile (Anthemis arvensis), an old-time weed on arable lands, is not found even by botanists today … and the yellow chamomile (Anthemis tinctoria) we know from its colour.
So the ox-eye daisy flower consists of the about a hundred tiny yellow disc florets in the centre and the some twenty to fifty white disc florets - loves ... loves not ...
It is the peak flowering period for the ox-eye daisies. The meadows of north-western Estonia gleam white, there has always been an abundance of them there. A beloved flower in summer for vases, keeps well in flower chaplets and summer can’t be imagined without ox-eye daisies ...
