Imprint of German shepherd’s forepaw

The paw prints of a large dog and a wolf are very similar – those of the wolf a little more oblong and somehow more defined (the claws of the middle toes are closer to each other). In snow wolves move in each other’s steps – one needs to look carefully to decide whether several wolves have passed.
The movements of wolves are energy-efficient, in the normal mode a trot or canter, and even with several animals, in a straight line of prints. In case of danger they change over into gallop.

Dogs on the other hand prance about and gallop in snow, and when several move together, each leaves its own track.
