Bird’s-eye primroses prefer a lime-rich soil, but in fresh meadows we find them  nearly everywhere in Estonia, although rarely. On the northern coast and the islands there are amazingly beautiful habitats. Due to the cold sea water air temperatures have been lower on the coast, and early summer a little later than inland, but the bird’s-eye primroses are already in their full beauty.

The wonderfully beautiful flowers of the bird’s-eye primroses cannot be confused with other plants – one umbel may have some ten of them. In addition the inflorescence as well as the undersides of its peculiar leaves are covered with a whitish-yellow bloom (farina).

The scent of  bird’s-eye primroses may be to some „sniffer’s“ liking, to others it is reminiscent of horse urine. There is no accounting for tastes – rather quarreling.
