The strongly smelling white flower racemes have developed into black berries – time flies. The black drupes of the bird cherry resemble tiny plums, and even their fruit flesh is edible – tart, with a quite large content of Vitamin C, but causing constipation. Some even like these tannin-containing fruits that make the mouth „thick and furry“.

The amygdaline, a substance harmful to humans, is contained in the seed of the berry, but even if the seed "stone" is swallowed nothing terrible will happen, the "stone“ simply does not decompose in our digestive system.
When preparing refreshing drinks or desserts with an interesting taste from the fruits crushing the pits must be avoided.
