The results are in for „Eesti Loodus“ photo contest

On the closing evening of the fourteenth photo contest of the magazine „Eesti Loodus“ prizes were given in the auditorium of the Tartu University library.
 
1043 photos were sent for this year`s photo contest by 179 authors – the youngest participant was four and the oldest eighty years old.
 
Unlike other contests, „Eesti Loodus“ photo contest focused on the knowledge of the nature. The photographer must define the object as accurately as possible and write the story behind the picture. In cooperation with Wikimedia Eesti there was a separate category for a „preservation area“ and the Ministry of the Environment added a special prize for the photo which has captured biodiversity the best. 
Photos were rated by the editor-in-chief of „Eesti Loodus“ Toomas Kukk, photograph and biologist Ott Luuk, NGO Loodusajakiri publisher Indrek Rohtmets, nature photographer Urmas Tartes, photographer Malev Toom and publisher Peeter Veromann.
 
In general classification the main prize for animal photos, which is 500€ worth of Canon products from the company Overall, went to Aleksandr Abrosimov. In the youth category the main prize for animal photos – 500€ worth of Canon products from Overall – Annaleena Vaher (15).
 
Main prize for plant photos, 400€ worth of photo supplies from Photopoint, went to Ireen Trummer. From young photographers the first prize (main prize was not given out) went to Grete Johanna Korb, who is four years old.
 
Main prize for funghi photos (250€ worth of photo supplies from Photopoint) was won by Peep Loorits and from young photographers the first prize went to Mati Lepikson. Several special prizes were given out, for example for capturing animal behaviour, small animal, aquatic animal, domestic animal, small plant, garden plant and aquatic plant, biodiversity etc., as well as special prizes by „Eesti Loodus“, „Eesti Jahimees“ and the Ministry of the Environment.
 
Main sponsors of the photo contest were Canon Overall and Photopoint, with good support by the Environmental Investment Centre, the Minsitry of the Environment, ilm.eelooduskalender.ee, „Eesti Jahimees“ and Wikimedia Eesti.
