The grey seal females, or cows, come into heat immediately after finishing the suckling of their pups. The old seal males (bulls) are of course in place to fulfil their mission and protect the ”bride” from competitors. You can see that the females fend off strangers too.

 

A rare view of the episode in the quiet shore water for observant viewers. The basis is laid for the population of seals to be born next year.

 

 

The seal pup in the screencap is still being suckled – its weight should already be around 30 kilos. A few more days and the seal youths start an independent life in the Baltic.
