Eagle Camera’s Guest - Sparrowhawk

Photo: Arne Ader
Translation: Kaija Eistrat

Sparrowhawk.
  Sparrowhawk Accipiter nisus

Sparrowhawks can be seen all year round, and the winter numbers are estimated at over a couple of thousands. Female birds are larger than the male ones; males can be recognized by the rust-coloured bars on the lower part of the belly. The female birds have a dark gray-brown back; Arne’s photo shows the front view.
Young birds resemble the females.

They like keeping watch over their surroundings from a perch tree. Very skilful and fast flyers.
