April 3rd was sunny and the air warmed up to +10 degrees; from half of the fields snow melted away, which means that springtime high water in rivers begin. The warm weather also woke up insects that have wintered as hatched imago: at Luua the brimstone butterfly, mosquito species and bees flew around, and from bark crevices firebugs came out to warm themselves. Among birds geese, wagtails and wood pigeons are seen and heard in addition to rooks, skylarks and starlings. Grey alders already spread their pollen in south-turned forest fringes.
The brimstone butterfly was also seen in Vasalemma yesterday, and a little bit earlier in south Estonia.
