The forest camera feeding grounds have diligent visitors – there will always be leftovers from the larger creatures. In the camera in West Viru  we can see flocks of birds billowing up and down when they take flight and in flight, or weaving upwards and downwards, as in a dance. This is the flight pattern of siskins.
On their winter menu are seeds of birch, grey alder and black alder. Often the birds hang in the smallest twigs, head downwards, as tits do. They are guests at bird feeders too.
The plumage on the siskins’ back is greenish with narrow black stripes. The black wings have a couple of yellow-green bands. Males have a black head and chin patch. The head and chin of the females are grey, and the sides are streaked. Juveniles look like female birds but with more bright yellow. It all adds up to a quite colourful description.
On the feeding grounds many other stationary and wintering birds keep company with the siskins
.
