Dear bird friends! If you have time to spare – and of course interest – it would be great if you could count cranes and graylag geese in your area, and send the information to me, if possible by e-mail.

On September 20th to September 23rd organised area counts will take place in Hiiumaa, Matsalu and Silma, and in several places in south-eastern Estonia.Although this is not an official  crane or goose observation year, we have counted them each autumn in the major areas, to have the records by years as continuous as possible. The exact time (date, time) and place should be noted, as well as the number of birds (by species) and the biotope (what kind of field or similar did the birds feed or rest or stay overnight in), also the observer/s.

Pre-information says that geese and cranes are already on the move, and there are large groups in several places.

Greetings from,
Aivar Leito
Your Uncle Crane
